Wow! I had no idea you were even working on it today. My eyes are tearing and my britches are wet....Sorry, I had to pee.

Thanks Scott, Looks Great! How are the temps looking?

Scott a question if i may, the orange frame over the gearbox holds the pump for the prerotator, how is it engaged on to the prop hub, i can see a cable coming out of that area, a close up of it completed would be nice thats.

Bones, I still don't have the pulley for the hyd pump or the belt on at this time, once I get everything else ironed out I will install the belt, and prop spinner.

The prop hub has a pulley for a flat belt instead of a pre rotator drum. The cable moves an idler pulley to tighten the belt.

What made you decide to go outside with your cables??
The rudder cables I assume? That is the way Ernie built the airframe.

I like the cables on the outside it makes them alot easier to inspect and clean, lube etc. Drilling holes in the keel lets in dirt, corrosion etc, plus it can weaken it at a high stress area, such as the tail keel where the gyro sets on the tail wheel everytime you land.

Hello Scott.

Looking good. Excellant machine.
Lovely 618 and the awesome prop. Very glad to see you doing well.

Just make sure you have a retaining clip on those rudder cable pulleys, so they dont get off the pulley when loose.

Just a thought by looking at the pictures.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hey Thom.

The prop is a Kiev Hot Prop sold eclusively through B&B Sport Aviation here in the US. The prop is from the Ukraine and sold around the world. Be prepaired to wait though. I ordered mine March 1st of this year and just recieved it this past week.

OK John, (Screw) came out today and we re-jetted and re-pitched the prop, Temps are down, engine seems to be running very well, just a few more loose ends to tie up before the testing begins.:D

you go boys!!

Hey Scott, can you send me your address again...I'm sending John out his tank tomorrow!

Thanks,

Barry

Hell Yeah, Temps are down and my britches are wet! I can't wait to ride that pony!

The prop is pitched to 6500RPM on the ground. The prop is very quiet and Scott's trees have no more leaves.

Scott mounted the radio on the panel, and I mounted the Intercom behind the front seat. As a result, we have a few radio type issues that I think I have solved today. I sent my patchcord back to Comtronics so that they can stretch the Audio cables to 8 ft. This way I can keep the patchcord under my seat and use the PTT. I also ordered from them a 6 ft. power cord for the intercom, and went to radio shack and got a power cord for my Icom.

Communications are solved.

Scott is wanting to make another bracket or two for the radiator hose and overflow bottle. Outside of that, we are ready to "Hang Test" and Test-Fly.

From the Fasion and Design Department (FDD), we have just obtain the checker board needed to complete the paint scheme.

Ok folks! We be almost ready to "Test Fly." We were gonna try and test fly it next Sunday, but Steve will be out of town, so looks like we will shoot for the Sunday after that.

Communications have been resolved.

Instrument panel is complete and it looks great! Maybe Scott will post a pic or two.

We have completed the Hang Test and we are nose heavy. I will be calling Ernie tomarrow about the results which were:

With me (207lbs) in the front seat and less than a 1/2 tank of fuel in the rear seat, we are hanging at 5 1/2 - 6 degrees on the mast. The head is in the most forward position, and the front seat is in the furthest back position. It looks like we will have to add wieght to the rear of the A/C to balance it out.

The engine is running strong, and I got to taxie it around yesturday to check the brakes and tracking. I didn't not taxie any faster than a slow walk and really had to stay on the brakes to keep it that slow! Baby wanted to go!

All looks good with "Green Lights" across the board, and Scott looks like a proud Pappa.

Shock strut bracket

Shock strut bracket

John
Did you solve the problem with the shock strut bracket mount sliding up the mast?

We just torqued the snot out of that bracket. It shouldn't go anywhere. I spent some time taxie it around the other day on Scott's field, and it didn't move.

As you suggested at SX Days, if it does become a problem, we can run a cable to an airframe bolt to lock it in place.

I installed another clamp right above it from 1" angle to help hold it. I also have AN4 bolts that go through the tubes the shocks are attached with. (I noticed yours oesn't have them) It take alot off tourqe to hold those shock clamps together!!

116.9 hours on mine and mine only moved once. I tightened the heck out of the bolts and it has since stayed put.

What you really mean is, you over torqued the bolt, as I have done on occaissions, Paul now slaps his wrist!!!

Try a very small amount of silicone under the plates.
