I am looking for advice on a new radio to replace my Vertex handheld. My Vertex is battery operated and I want my new radio to be the same. I have a Comtronics helmet with earpieces and microphone. There is only one connector from the helmet down to a cable connector that connects to the radio and my PTT. Please give me your advice if you are familiar with this setup. I fly a Single Dominator and there is no room on the dash for an installed unit. Thank you for any input.

Hey Gator….. nobody wants to talk to you anyway!!! 😂🤣😂

I bought an Icom handheld recently and it came with a GA audio adapter.

Most handhelds require their own proprietary adapter cable to accept headset or helmet standard plugs.

The Sporty's PJ2 has standard GA headset sockets for PJ-055 and PJ-068 plugs and needs no adapter for those. If you have a single plug (helicopter standard) U174/U or U93/U, I don't know of any handheld that accepts those directly (there might be some but I haven't seen it).

For most handhelds, you might need two adapters to get from single plug to GA two plug to the proprietary handheld socket. With the Sporty's, you might need only one for single plug helicopter to GA twin plug (places like Sporty's and Aircraft Spruce sell those).

The Yaesu adapter connects to the standard 2 connector audio interface. One, smaller plug for mic and a slightly larger one for the headset audio.

I have the same Comtronics helmets. I bought the Comtronics adapters that changes them from single 1/4" "Ultralight" plugs to standard dual GA plugs. Then you can use any aviation radio.
