New build, Aviomania G1sB Genesis

John:

Tilted the rotor head down and mast height 83" overhead clearance 89" - control rod clearance. If you take the control rods off you get to 83" either way. I would not have thought that the prerotator shaft would bend like that. If I was going to trailer this way I would want to take some of the tension off the shaft by supporting the rotorhead someway.

Oops, yes forgot to mention we used bungees to lift the head back up to be even with the mast.
It was so long ago I do not remember having to take the control rods off.
If you take the tape off and let them fall down on each side at an angle and tape it where it is just a little lower than the mast but not wider than the wheelbase.

I remember only having to tilt the cheek plates back up and bolt it and bolt the control rods and done.

PS:
This was a case of an invention by necessity. It would not fit in the otherwise awesome trailer and they wanted to go home, like yesterday.

They move a bit but throttle cables catch them.

Build is finished and will start engine for first time tomorrow. Air Worthiness Inspection scheduled for next Friday. AWC portal was a snap and paperwork either done in the app or uploaded to it.

The process was no "snap" when I was doing it (by mail) only about four years ago... seems my paperwork got "misplaced".

This is good to hear. I had a plane inspected about 2 years ago, and there was nothing but horror stories of the new and "improved" online process. I'll be doing this for the Onex in the next month or so, and I'm actually looking forward to doing this online rather than on paper.

All inspectors have their own pet things to look for, but they should warn you if there's anything unusual. The last one I had done required a fuel flow test to be recorded in the logbook. I'm officially going to predict you pass :)

The online process is working, can't account for variations in DARS. Mine has been super, will deal with inspection!

Online should eliminate this, you know as soon as you do a form or step if what you've submitted is ok. My app was lacking in details on the prop. FAA returned the app and I went through the process again and was passed to the DAR.

I must have taken them off and just don't remember... Thanks.

Ron paid a DAR to do it so I did not get to learn how.
Knew about the FAA portal and learn the forms the DAR needed as I'm the one who has them all scanned and found them for Ron. I put those in a special folder for when I use the FAA and not a DAR to have my G1 registered.
PRA 31 at my hangar has at least 4 new rides almost done, including mine, and I need to train the FAA rep here and he train me to do it right.
As now that I'm well 95% of the time with a MEDICAL there will be many more built here.

Regardless of who does the inspection the process and forms are the same. Enter basic data in the AWC portal, upload supporting documents, select inspection option, MIDO or DAR, then submit package.

Once you submit the package you cannot go back and edit anything. I did not provide complete info on the prop and needed to remove some .pdf files. Had to withdraw application and do it over.

Thank you Bobby for sharing, I learned how to withdraw and correct my first attempt when I make a mistake.

I listened real hard Friday but didn't hear your engine running :)

When you get a chance, can you post pictures that show how the prerotator attaches to the engine?

Thanks,
Rusty

Rusty:. I had a bad accident Friday! Bought a 14 gal fuel Cady that has a small battery powered pump. Planned to pump in 2 gals of fuel but as soon as I turned the pump on a hose ruptured and sprayed fuel all over me, the Gyro, etc.

Totally freaked me out. Spent some time cleaning up a mess that could have turned out very bad.

Plan to run the engine and taxi around the neighborhood tomorrow, will get you some pictures.

Bobby, this is what I have happily used for the past four years. I don't like electric motors around gasoline.

I use their 7.5 gal containers, which are of a nice, two-handled design. Two of them just about fill my tank up from empty, and when full they each weigh just under 50 lbs (which is about as much as I ever want to heft).

I'm glad there was no fire. Static electricity probably causes more fires than electric motors, and it's certainly static season. The absolute worst feature of the Sonex Onex is that you fill the fuel through a hole in the windscreen. Can't believe they thought that was a good idea.

No hurry on prerotator pics. Get squared away for your inspection first.

I was freaking out, I was covered, so was the Gyro, and the front of the garage. All I could think of was any spark and it would have been all over!

To scarry for me.

That does sound scary!
I think a hand pump pretty much precludes that kind of spray-spill.
