Helicycle wide angle windshield

I think Colin is still making them, not sure of his current output schedule but more than a couple guys have installed them. I made a different version for my ship but could never figure out a good (easy) way to install them on other peoples cabins. Mine turned out well but it was a LOT of fussy fiberglass work. Colins has almost the same visuals but is a much easier to install...

Now that is what the Helicycle needed! My number one complaint was the tunnel vision that original window had. My next modification was going to add that wide windshield. B.J. did a phenomenal job designing the Helicycle, but not in that front windshield.

I wouldnt say the tunnel vision is so much the concern I have seen. My front screen was customized for a pilot that used a helmet so it needed a small bubble.

I went to Lowes yesterday and bought a small piece of plexiglass which is literally 100% clear like a car/truck window and also previous machines I have flown (R22/R44/Jet ranger). I am thinking there was simply some sort of heat distortion in the customized window because its quite obscure especially when holding the clear piece of plexiglass up which is the ulitmate goal.

I called factory today and they are shipping me out the original front windscreen . I will see if that improves things once I have it in.

As for RotorKop I hate to see that experience so far. I think buying from a previous owner had its benefits for me for various reasons : mostly time because I dont have time to build but it also has been flown and the kinks worked out.

As for flying Ive only had mine a few weeks and 2.5 hours so far in it. But its not about how far you go / how high you fly . Its about what you want out of it. I can literally fire it up / go find a big field / hover around / do some quick stops / burn out about 10 gallons of fuel and head right back home. I got my fix in for the day and look forward to next week when I have the chance again.

Do you have one of your front Window for sale, I'm very interested.
Do you think you design are adoptable to the standard cabin., I have the half doors in place in the cabin so I don't like to redo the doors.

What do you think about my two questions

Any idea if the wider screen was ever produced or available for the Helicycle Today?

The last time we made a run of the wider style windscreens at Aircraft Windshields, they were nice enough to pull a few extra and keep them on the shelf. As of this writing, I think we still have a clear and a tinted in stock as well as a couple of sets of the cheek windows. This style is a bit more work to install but I do think they look nice and the view from inside is fantastic...

Tim,
Your Helicycle is quite a striking example! Do you have any additional pictures or info on the windshield and install? I like how you added the inset for the windshield in favor of bolting it to the outside of the ship.. Nice work!

Hey Brian,
Thanks! I'm really happy with how it turned out :)
There have actually been quite a few fellows that have installed the wide windshield now, so there is a nice pool of experience to draw from. I wrote a (long) email I've been sending out with an explanation of what I did along with a video of the windshield-specific mods on my ship to anyone interested. Happy to mail it over if you like...
PM me with your email and I'll send them your way.

Tim

That is one smart ship love the cheek windows and big screen how much work was it
Do you feel it has lost any strength

Thanks 500e,
It was not an insubstantial amount of fussy fiberglass work but that probably had more to do with my skill level at the time. I made a small foam-filled box-beam out of the remaining pillar and honestly, it seems far more solid now than the stock configuration. The windscreen is bonded to the cabin instead of the screws which probably helps as well.
