power loss on takeoff

Glad you realized the issue and got it down safely. Some tall trees to climb over. Do you wear ear plugs since muffler is right at ear height.
 
Maybe a clue was the "has not been run for a while" if two stroke fuel is left in the carb bowl it evaporates and leaves behind the oil which can/may cause a problem. I was always told at the then of the day, close off the fuel and run the carbs dry.

The issue is not fuel evaporation but fuel with ethanol leaving water in the system over time. Even non ethanol fuel left long enough will gum up the fuel system.

Good idea to shut fuel off and run engine till it quits but down stream fuel still an issue.
