After receiving some advice from fello forum members regarding using round tube mast's, I promised to report back here with my findings.
While I have not finished the build and have not flown it yet, I'll start this thread to document the rest of the build and how it fly's with the round mast.
These pictures were about a month ago when doing the preliminary hang test's just to see if it was in the ball park. Then engine was started for the first time yesterday.

Thanks mate, this 914 has a non standard turbo but not for more power but to remove the factory TCU in the process I have a few more pony's though about 120hp. There are plenty of single seat gyro's here with more power than that.
I am shooting for about 10 degree's nose down.
Working on a pre rotator at the moment.

A few mates have fitted Edge big bore kits to their 914’s with good results, around 125hp apparently.

Be careful of the lithium battery, I know of a few that have overheated in Magni gyros. Autogyro have issued a Safety Bulletin to replace theirs.

Looking forward to your report on how it flies.

Gday Rick, I was offered a good price on a big bore kit a while ago when buying other stuff I probably should have taken it but didn't.

I don't have a current pic John, but this pic is when I first started to convert it to a round mast I was keeping it vertical.
Now it has a round mast but at 7 degrees with new cluster plates but otherwise mounted the same with channel gang nuts.Resized_20200526_143213.jpeg

I believe they are a different brand than yours. Apparently when running under a heavy load the battery can overheat and starts emitting smoke.
I’m pretty sure Lithium batteries are banned on commercial flights as they have been known to catch fire.
Mind you I had one in my gyro for five years without a problem.

how did you bent the cooling aluminium hose ?
what sort of aluminium is it ?
I am hoping to love the round mast also mate.
The cooling pipe is stainless steel fabricated out of mandrel bends and straights.

Yep that's the same pump that I have been looking at Jm.
My single instrument is also an MGL but one of the new vega colour screen's. So far I love it it does the whole engine and has a warning output, so I have two large red warning lights one for the charge circuit and one for the mgl gauge so I won't really even watch the gauge. If any parameters are at the pre selected limit it will light the warning light.

That’s a very rugged simple bush basher there Wolfy. I like the big ‘tackys’ ( balloon tyres), they look as though they will let you land pretty well anywhere in the bush.

It reminds me a bit of the S African Trojan/Vlooi by Wagtail, a rough tough outback go anywhere gyro. Needle ball and airspeed simplicity so very little to go wrong. Certainly got poke there, and that fuel tank looks as though you’ll have a reasonable endurance/range. What capacity?

On first glance I wondered about the height of the oil reservoir, I know that the 912 they caution placing it too high in case of trickle through of clearances in the bearings when left for long periods, but this might not apply to the 914?

Interesting prop, have seen them, don't recollect the name. What diameter?

What rotors are you going to put on her? I think you mentioned there is an Aussi manufacturer, Petrony’s?? Couldn’t find out anything about them. What diameter? I guess she will weigh a bit.

Cheers leigh it is my new basher mate, simple, tough, ruff as guts and just slapped together mainly from parts I had laying around quickly to get back into gyro's.
I mainly wanted a large nose wheel because it's always the nose wheel to give trouble first in soft ground.
The fuel tanks are actually only very small about 40L from both tanks.
The oil tank is about right, the oil level needs to be between prop shaft center and 400mm below prop shaft center. Mine's at 150mm below.
Most tanks are mounted dangerously to low.
It's a saber style prop from "Aero Prop" about 71" diameter.
Yeah it's going to be heavier then I would have liked, so will be going with 27.5 to 28.5' rotors. I have some Advanced Kinetics rotors that I will cut down to size once I decide a size. AK's are the only locally available blade left, they are an extrusion.

Wolfy, You may want to try to pull sideways at the prop hub to see if the engine can rotate horizontally around the mast. You may want some bracing to keep that from happening, perhaps from the aft engine mounts to the axle.

I noticed the MGL RDAC box. What model MGL EFIS are you using? Or if other make which one and how do you like it.
Does it let you not have to do an engine instrument scan and give you a beep warning message if temps go high or oil pressure goes low, etc?

Thanks John but I think you are talking about Jean Micheal's gyro, he posted the pictures above. Mine has the black frame and that definitely can't happen. I can see your concern though, I have thought the same.

You maybe talking of Jm's gyro John.
I do use an MGL guage though, it is a vega EMS-1. It monitors the engine and will send out a warning signal (either audible or visual) if any of the pre-set parameters are reached. I dont have RDAC.

Thank you, Bro. Confused again, it was an after-reading the post the first time. Didn't read it the 2nd time only saw the RADAC in the picture.
I'm going to try MGL EFIS in the Genesis and see if it frees up the scan time.

Chuck or anyone else, I have a small concern regarding my mast.
I plan on clamping on to the mast between the top mast clamp and the cheek plates a bevel gearbox for my pre rotator.
Although the gearbox naturally won't be fastened to anything else and will be free to move with the mast, my concern is the clamp itself introduces a hard point in the otherwise flexible mast. The clamp itself could be up to 3" high, so instead of the mast bending in a nice even radius it will have that 3" hard point about a foot above the upper mast fixing.
The clamp itself won't be a solid 3" but possibly two half inch clamps up to 3 inches apart.
Do you think there is any concern?
