Aviomania Genesis G1sE Sport

Nicolas, it has been awhile; have you any update on the new rotor?
You indicated that you might be making your own in-house.
Am I correct that this is all that is holding up production?
Also, did you evaluate the SportCopter rotors?
Hope to see you updating/posting/INNOVATING again soon ! :)
Brian

I've spoken with Nicolas about a month ago and he told me that he did not expect to have his new blades tested and ready till the end of the year.

Nicholas, what about the new Skywheels?

Have you perhaps evaluated Skywheels as a replacement for Dragon Wings?
Are you any closer to resuming kit shipments?
Brian

I spoke with Aviomania several weeks ago and they (he) indicated still working on in-house rotor blades.

Brian hello. I have a set of skywheels... but they are not what i like for my single seat gyroplanes. We are working on our rotorblades (several options) and also evaluating others..... for the 2 seat is not problem as there are alternatives. For the single seat they need to be as per dragonwings specs because the design was perfectly balanced for that. We will inform everyone once we are ready for the single seat.

Have you looked at the Razor blades by Gyro Technics?

Enquiries have been made I believe.

I am considering a lot of options

Denis’s Razor Blades are now fully tested, my set was tested with a video, in production and being sold.

As he says, drop in replacements for Dragon Wings.

I have yet to try mine but on the video on the test looked incredibly smooth hands off, with no two per evident.

My new machine will have Razor Blades!

What are the options on offer?
Has Nicholas got his own rotors in production?

I'll answer from what I know and what I was offered. Dennis(Gyrotechnic) Razorblades, Sport Rotors, or Aviomania Blades. Shipping on Aviomanua blades to the US drives cost higher so assume he has his blades in production. I talked with Dennis at length and chose the Razorblades.

From seeing and being able to help on the build process on the the Razor Blades, the materials, quality control, and care that goes into their production was highly impressive.

Then there is the assembly, tracking, balancing, and flight testing.

Worth every single cent, and a bargain at the price.

I greatly appreciate everyone’s input and answers! I am currently registered and attending the PRA ground school. I plan on having my license by the end if summer. In the meantime I would like to build a project for when my training is complete. I would love to have one of the many side by side Gyro’s, however $80-100k is a little out of my price range. I am extremely active in my local EAA chapter 132 and have excellent builder support. There are a few active Gyro pilots including Lowell Farrand who has been flying gyros since the Bensen days. Lowell is a treasure trove of Gyro information and knows a lot about proper Gyro design. He was very active in the PRA and was also the co-designer and test pilot of the first PPG. He is quite the guy and I respect him and all that he has accomplished in Aviation. Anyhow I am getting a bit off topic...

I am looking into the SportCopter Vortex and the AvioMania Genesis G1sE for my project. I really like the stability and design of both these Gyro’s and Lowell recommends the SportCopter. He knows Jim Vanek pretty well and feels that his designs are some of the best out there. I have been researching numerous vendors for well over six months as I never jump into a project without the proper knowledge needed. I do have the chance to purchase a New and complete SportCopter Vortex with Rotax 582for $25k. I am just really unsure about a two stroke and am also worried about the fuel burn. I would love to build the AvioMania with the Rotax 912 however the $10k price hike is hard to swallow.

I do completely understand where AvioMania is coming from based on some of the issues with the YG4 and Viking engine installs.
Then again first installs of any engine will always have some problems.

AeroMomentum also has the AM10 75hp 3 cylinder at 138lbs
Based on what you said about the AM13 being the heaviest of the bunch, I would assume this is not the final installed weight.

HKS has the 700 4 stroke 60hp with 125-128lbs installed weight.
There is a great comparison of it and the Rotax 582 below.

I would really prefer to stay away from 2 stroke engine however if I were to go that route from what I have read the Hirth engine line is the way to go. They offer the same power for less weight over the Rotax 582 with half the fuel burn. The engine is also half the cost of the Rotax and has the same prop hub and placement as the Rotax 582.

Saluti!

Nic

2/rev vibration is the fault of Igor Bensen for necking the rotor down to 2½ inches at the hub and using a square mast.
Such vibration is the result of the inplane resonant frequency of the rotor system being too near the rotational speed.
Skywheel rotors with their wide hub, were completely free of 2/rev vibration. Their tail heaviness, with chordwise CG aft of the aerodynamic center, causing them to be unstable vs angle of attack, manifested on heavy gyros by an unexpected tail stand, was totally unrelated. Most individuals flying light weight gyros loved their Skywheels, crediting the wrong way pitching in vertical guests as “high lift.”
The reason for the parallel drag struts on on each side of the hub on Joe Pires’ Aviomania gyro with 12”* wide DWs is to stiffen the rotor inplane and eliminate 2/rev vibration.
The drag strut cure was originally tried on Mike Schallman’s rotor using extruded 8H12 rotors after he splatted and ruined the Skywheels hub that he was using. The drag struts eliminated his 2/rev vibration. There is mention of Mike in the articles on Jim Eich’s tractor gyros at el Mirage.
* Why did I say 12 inches when I knew better? My head must have been some place where the sun doesn't shine.
