Nice videos. With my M24, and unless there's crosswind, I always land with the engine at idle from the start of the glide path, so to avoid the rolling reaction when you cut the throttle. I have yet to practice real engine-outs, i.e., killing the engine. I need more experience before that.
 
Go to about 27:15 on the time line for engine actually off. This was at RotorFest 2012.

I smiled when the announcer talked about using collective.

With all those trees aren’t you better off decending vertically over the field then landing? Seems like taking a fixed wing approach?
 
Your landings look good to me and I could barely see your nose wheel touch down.

I like the telemetry on the video.

What sort of camera is that?

For a real emergency landing I like a little slower touch down speed and less roll out. It is the soft stuff and the holes you don’t see that can get you with too much roll out in an off field emergency landing.
 
Great thread.thanks for posting Inquiring Mind! I like the camera with its three axis stablizing Mount. That is why the video looks so good. The M24 is a nice gyro too.

Is the camera adding the gauges on the sides of the video too with the G-Metrix? What part of the country are you flying with all the trees? Can you post more videos since not much action on the forum now. I like the photos and videos the best.

The camera has integrated "AHRS", "GPS" and "Baro" chips, so it does record all the data synced to the recorded video. At the time of video editing with Garmin VIRBEdit editor I choose which data to display and type of gauges to use for that. Tons of them to choose from comes with VIRBEdit and you can even create your own gauges.
What part of the country are you flying with all the trees? Can you post more videos since not much action on the forum now. I like the photos and videos the best.
I'm in NE. I will post all the videos worth posting.

Because I'm still learning. Best glide speed according to POH is 55kt.
BTW, I don't mind constructive criticism.

That speed (well, 100 km/h, that is quite close) is even highlighted with a yellow pointer on the anemometer, from factory. When I was trained for the adaptation to the M24, I was told to dive on final at 100 km/h and to maintain stable the glide path, keeping the airspeed steady only with the throttle...

Nice video Billy and nice smooth control inputs.

It was a good decision to add power that one time. You might have been able to save the landing with an aggressive flare; for what you are doing yours was the correct decision and I liked how smoothly you fed the power in.

Sometimes it is helpful to know the standards you are preparing for in your proficiency check ride.

POWER-OFF APPROACH AND ACCURACY LANDING REFERENCES: FAA-H-8083-21; Gyroplane Flight Manual.

Objective. To determine that the applicant:

1. Exhibits knowledge of the elements related to performing a power-off approach and accuracy landing.

2. Selects a reference point in the landing area for touchdown and reduces power to a zero-thrust position.

3. Adjusts glide path to terminate approach and touch down beyond and within 300 feet of the reference point.

The plus or minus five knots on approach for normal and crosswind landings does not apply to power off approach and accuracy landings.

The touch down accuracy is also increased from minus nothing plus 200 for normal and cross wind landings to minus nothing plus 300 for power off approach and accuracy landings.
