How do you get the overlays on the video? Looks like fun!

Two Garmin VIRB Ultra 30 cameras recorded videos and flight parameters. VIRBEdit software used to over impose recorded data and Pic-in-Pic video from second camera while editing.

I flew in this Purple Glitter M24 915 with Luca at their airfield Casaleggio, where this video was taken, about 3 months ago. It was a real blast, he let me fly it for a bit too. I have an M24 914 and the difference was huge especially in the climb. The 915 can climb at over 1000ft a minute!

Hi Dave, It is around 80mph and the VNE which with a 914 is 100mph is a little higher. You won’t get much higher speeds because of the shape of the M24 but you get much better climb rate and acceleration.

When I tried it we cruised at around 80, the closer you get to 100 the more it vibrates which is why I think 80 is a sensible cruise speed or 130kph
from http://magniusa.com/m-24-orion.html
PERFORMANCE
Maximum speed105 mph
Cruising speed90 mph

I flew 12 hours in m24 with 914 and 1.5 hour in m24 with 915 (videos posted above), never noticed any vibrations at 90 mph.

I test flew a M24 to buy, and beautiful gyro. However, cruise was in mid 60s mph so didn’t buy it. I assumed the prop wasn’t pitched for climb instead of cruise. 90mph is on the slow side for me for long cross country trips. 100mph is ideal. Think tandem is still best choice for long distance trips. I thought the 915 would help a bit more on cruise speed to overcome drag with side by side... Thanks!

Dave, you be the judge: 915iS at 4700-4800 RPM, MAP 31-32, GPS 3D recorded speed 83-88 MPH, wind speed - 0 MPH, Fuel Flow 5.0-5.1 GPH:

When the gyro will come to my place, I'll check the airspeed at 5500 RPM and post it here. I will be surprised if it is less than 100 MPH.

BTW, that gyro has DUC 4-blade Flash-2 prop installed, not DUC 5-blade Flash-1 prop as was installed with 915iS until very recently. Serial # of my 4-blade prop hub is 0002.
Luca Magni said 4-blade prop performs better than 5-blade.

Nice. The Magni M24 design is nice. Thanks for the video. Would be great to see the cruise speed with 5200 rpm. Not familiar with the turbo MAP pressures.

Dave, I will post it. Now the prop is pitched to max at 5580 RPM at full throttle during a take-off at 560' MSL & 30C ambient temperature. It is very easy to re-pitch the prop to any desirable MAX RPM at full throttle, hence changing max cruise speed.

If the M24 can get 95mph or more cruise with reasonable rpm and MAP then that would be ideal for cross country trips.

That's too much for the M24, a gyro with a large frontal area, well suited for relaxed sightseeing flights at moderate speeds. The green arch of the anemometer starts at 55 km/h and ends at 140 km/h (87 mph)... A reasonable cruise is 100 km/h (62 mph) @4600 rpm.

Xavier, check the video from post #14, to me it seems pretty reasonable: 915iS at 4700-4800 RPM, MAP 31-32, GPS 3D recorded speed 83-88 MPH, wind speed - 0 MPH, Fuel Flow 5.0-5.1 GPH:

I just flew from St. Louis, Mo to Long Island, Bahamas in my M24 915 with the five blade prop. Total 35 hours of flying!
Here are some of the cruise settings I found to work well:
  • 96%, 34.5 5220, 6.6 g/h, IAS 90, TAS 99
  • 95%, 34.7, 5060, 6.2 g/h, IAS 85, TAS 88

Must be an exciting flight!
Thanks for the info. I'm going to experiment with different prop pitching, for climb, for cruise, or for somewhere in between, to find out what suit my needs the best.
