several good videos on youtube, never looked very graceful on landing.

This one from the 1959 airshow, shows a bunch of nurses exiting after a high performance touchdown

The pilot conrol interface on a Rotodyne

The pilot conrol interface on a Rotodyne

Something I've been puzzled about is the design of the control interface on a vehicle like the rotodyne or the McDonnell XV-1 - that is, one which transitions from tip-jet drive to operation as an autogyro. I keep trying to act out the transition in my head, and I always end up needing three hands.

If anybody know about reports, pictures or films which cover this I would be very grateful for a link or a reference.

hi Marc
regarding your post #48: could you post a screen shot, it might help to identify the problem

regarding #49 we have two quite comprehensive reports covering the XV-1 in our "Technical Books, Papers and Publications" section, I do not remember though if they cover operating the aircraft, you might want to have a look here:

There are some hints on how the Rotodyne was operated here:

Does anybody know how to display the images in the Flightglobal archive? They used to display, and I could even download them. Now they show up only in the left frame.

I have no problem, in my 'MacBook' with instantánea/capture. For example:

I wonder if the Rotordyne had any ice protection ? As well as what would happen if you lost one of those tip jets during a hover ?

Concerning de-icing:
