I'm not a pilot but have been lucky enough to fly in Mi-24 Hind, Mi-2, Mi-17, Lynx HAS3, Gliders, GA
There were no known witnesses to the departure or accident. According to an individual who was hunting, about 1700, he heard a loud sound similar to a gunshot, but dismissed it as another hunter.
I'm not sure what to make of the "loud sound".
Rotor/prop strike? Impact into terrain?

It should be possible from autopsies (if such were done) to determine whether the occupants died of impact or fire. That would be some help in finding a cause. Sparrowhawks have no history of PPO that I know of, and in fact they were designed with low thrustline, making PPO impossible. People have died before by being trapped and succumbing to post-crash fires in otherwise survivable crashes -- which can start with something as simple as loss of power over rough terrain.
