I was wondering does the MZ 202 really kick out as much hp as the 582. Any big issues with it.

No, more performance than a 503 but not as much as the 582.

The 582 is a much more refined engine for aviation use than the 202 but the MZ is workable if you must have a lighter weight.

You need to get the right voltage regulator or the MZ ignition will shut down if the battery fails as it's ignition must be powered by 12v to run, this is a known and documented problem with solution. Rotax has true independent ignitions and are separate from the charging system.

Spark plugs threads are easier to strip in the head and a crack can form between the two plug holes in the heads.

Muffler is far less refined and louder than the Rotax, has a single ball joint vs the two on the Rotax and suffers from major fatigue cracking issues ( I personally re-welded one several times as it was a Crack-O-Matic, friend also had to re-weld cracks on his 202 powered Mosquito ).

Gearbox has a clutch which causes prop to windmill when dead stick reducing glide.

Earlier engines had a problem with the cast aluminum stator plate cracking causing stator failure, newer engines should have a machined stator plate but you need to check.

Company owner hard to deal with at times.
