Don't want to start a bad rumor, but I think Bill passed away. Not sure, I would ask Mary Jane

Bud,
I asked Dad about him before Bensen Days and he said he didn't know if he were still among the living. I have seen hyde nor hair of him in at least three years.

Ron,
No the last thing that he did any amount of time actually flying in was a VW powered Bensen. He wrecked it in the early eighties. He built a side by side V6 Buick poered two place that he wrecked. He never got over that. He talked about flying all the time, but in 20 years I don't think I ever saw him flying his own. I think you are thinking of Dr. Bill Clem.

I'm sorry to hear about Lloyd. Old "Deputy Dog" and his bullet gyro were a staple of the early eighties. My fonds memory of Lloyd was when he would shout out at banquets.

May I have your attention?, May I have your attention?

The crowd would hush and Lloyd would say,

THANK YOU ! and go about his business or just walk away. He was a character.

I seem to remember Bill "JYD" Tarpley spitting out a VW sparkplug and starting a grass fire at one Bensen Days 10 or more years ago. Maybe that was Slim Rosenberg, however.

You Florida folks have given us some unique individuals. I can't end this without mentioning E.A. Van Houten. We had some bad weather headed toward the PRA convention in Rockford, IL. in the mid-seventies. Somehow E.
. got the word and came on the convention PA to warn the campers.

Alcohol may have had a part in this, but old E.A. gave us by-the-minute reports for long time before the storm and then narrated the storm. All of this in the pre-dawn hours.

Tom, You need to write a book! You have always amazed me with all the Gyro stories & memory of all the cool things that most people have no clue as to the History of our Sport!
