My Uncle is actually a principle investor in that concept.

Default special case of cross flow fans (CFF)

Last year I met a retired aerospace engineer whose name just now escapes me. He explained that the fanwing was a naive re-invention of the cross flow fans (CFF) that have been studied and tested with support of NASA years before. The fans were more appropriately placed closer to the trailing edge.

I was wondering if installing CFF's in rotor blades would be a better way to prerotate a rotor (and partially drive the rotor in flight). They would be like a cross between Ralph Taggart's dual model propeller prerotation and tip jets.

Put the leading edge back on the ground and leave the Combine alone!! People hav been proving since before the Wright Brothers that the design doesn't work. About every 15 years it pops up again. Kind of a "ducted fan" type of thing: it looks like it should work. (DFs work, they just aren't very efficient.)

WOW........... I'm completely baffled, but I love the footage..............once again out side the box thinking when so many are in doubt..they still push forward anyway.

Not hard to see why it will not work, without power it would glide like a rock

Gyro J,

Yeah....maybe....I don't know much about this design, but if I remember correctly the V22 Osprey does not auto rotate either.............and DOD is pouring their money in that. Needs to be a redundant back up of sorts like the GEN H4 Helo that has 4 power plants and can safely land on 2.

From their website:

Glide with power off

R&D is now establishing the ideal angle of attack to achieve maximum rpm. If the motor stops it will be disconnected from the rotor as it is in a helicopter. Wind-tunnel tests have shown a steady improvement in glide-autorotation. Practical proof was provided by engine failure during a test flight in 2004. The glide angle will be steep (1:3 )but the actual descent speed will be low and rotor speed will be high enough to allow a good landing.
