Default Gyro computer software/trainer??

I saw on one of the several websites I visited, a software program/simulator that aided in the training of gyro students.

Is anyone aware of software that is out there? Don't worry, it's not going to be a substitute for training.... but it would be fun just to play around and see what you can do in a gyro while safely sitting at the PC drinking a beer (or whatever beverage you like)

It'd be good for days when the weather doesn't permit me to go to the airport...

I've used the X-Plane program and like it. I have version 7.62 It has a Sparrowhawk and Raf 2000 gyros. There are others but those are the only ones I've used. I found that it helps to extend the joystick for a more realistic feel. You'll also have to play with the control settings some, but it's easy. Version 8 is out and has the Raf 2000 gyro available for it. WWW.x-plane.com and www.x-plane.org for the program and for planes. $40 for version 7 and $50 for version 8

If my memory is correct, I have seen some gyros (generic?) created for Microsoft Flight Simulator by independent programmers. Most of the details are lost in the fog of past memories.

(Never could get the Concorde up to supersonic speed, always ran out of fuel.)

Bart, I haven't tried to bunt but I've tried to flap the rotors and it won't let me. It will let you get behind the power curve and it's difficult to recover. It's also somewhat more difficult to do a crosswind landing although I haven't tried to do that after all the practice I got at Bensen days.

Take that X-Plane RAF model & remove the horizontal stab - it'll bunt in a heartbeat. Because the controls are always fixed in the sim it's really ugly to fly an unstable gyro, a great way to demonstrate the whole stability issue if nothing else.

Aaaah SO ! A flight simulator that actually deals properly with a gyro ?
I have made a bunch of modles for Flight sim 2004... but try as i might they still fly alot like a aircraft with a hudge square wing instead of a rotor ! and no they will NOT bunt over and they do stall to my dismay !
and there seams to be nothing i can do about that !
sounds like time for X-plane to me .... can i make my modles fly in x-plane too ? that is a major factor for me as my aircraft is far from conventional ! ...

thanks fellers !

yes, you can make your own aircraft in x-plane... it comes with plane maker..you can download a demo copy from x-plane.com it will only work for 6 minutes, but is pretty much fully functional other than that.. plane maker will also come with it.. also you can download other aircraft from x-plane.org and modify those aircraft in plane maker..

As much as I like the program, it is no substitute for two place training. Have you tried Leslie Sanders in Marysville Ca.? He's only 120 miles away.

I have tried L.sanders about 5 times in the last 3 years he has been out of business for at least 3 years that i know of.... i keep trying him , just in case the people that post the available instructors know something i don't .... but no luck so far !

I guess the new FAA ruleing realy hit the gyro instructors hard... put most of them out of business because they can't use their 2 place gyros anymore or something like that ... tipical FAA /goverment helping us by realy hurting us in the proccess !

I'ed go to leslie Sanders if he was in business ... even at 120 miles one way .... oh well !
