Default I was naughty....

I went to the hangar this weekend to work on my 2-place. It was the first weekend since November that was warm enough for me to work comfortably.... but..

I was naughty and I took the 447 out for it's (and my) first flight of '05 and I didn't get a single bit of work done on the 2 place.

Here are the photos:

Picture 2 is a small grass strip. Anyone know it? Hints: Southern OHio, Name has something to do with rotorcraft.

Cell tower.

One thing postitive about it is that it makes the airport easy to find.

You better do some work on that SxS, but it's good to see the Commander fly again. I can't wait to get mine fired up again!

Yea, I know...
I love the SxS and I keep talking about selling the AC447 someday and getting a machine with more horsepower and CLT like the Monarch. However, everytime I fly her I think maybe I should just keep it going forever. She is so precise. I can just set it down, zero roll, right where I want it without a second thought.

The big 2-place brusers like mine want much higher airspeeds to be happy and don't seem near so nimble. I have over a hundred more hours in the single though so I may for more 'attuned' to the two place as my hours build.

Come hot humid summer days combined with my fat butt and I will be less enthuastic though. She doen't climb out with a @#% when it is hot and she is full of fuel.

Default Humphries

You gave away the answer too quick.
I borrowed a friend's Rockwell Commander and flew some of our club members down to Humphries for an Ohio club meeting years ago. Humphries was too short for the Rockwell so we made a plan with them to buzz the joint and then proceed to Batavia (Sporty's) where someone from the Cinncinatti club would pick us up.

Wer did a nice buzz (after clearing the area) and went to Batavia, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. I finally got a phone answered by Mrs Humphries (who was outside) she said she came in because everyone went home. They forgot us.

Oh well!

It is a short strip and even shorter with the gas main they dug up (hard to see in the photo). Last year, my first time into the field I got stuck on a hot day in my 447. I could not clear the electrical line and trees with what I felt was a good margin for a gusty day and aborted take off 3 times. The tall wet grass and bumpy surface did not help either. I went back the next morning when it was cool and poped right out.

When aborting the takeoff I had to spiral down and land along side the runway as it is surrounded by trees that I could not clear. One of the bystander pilots said "I should have not turned down wind". There is a bright one. I suppose he thought I should have flown into the powerline infront of me or the trees to my right or the houses and powerline to my left.. Granted it would have been a better show but not very comfortable.

My hangar is at Sporties so if you come by again give me a holler and you can get a warm welcome!
