Given the choices following, which fuel would you prefer for use in a hot-running, air-cooled, 100hp 2-cycle engine, given that both are locally available?
"Rec" fuel, or recreational alcohol-free mogas, 90 octane. $4.15/gal OR Premium mogas, consistently tests to 5% ethanol, 93 octane, $3.95/gal

I get it 3 places in my area. One gas station has it, a marina, and a fuel distributor all carry recreational gas.

I've used both in my ej22 fi but in the past year have been using the 93 oct., like has already been said the 90 oct is available from any station serving a marine community. I buy the 90 oct for my motorcycle, lawn mowers and my mixed 2cycle weedeater/leaf blower/chain saw. The survey doesn't address the manufacters octane requirment or the compresion ratio. My issue with the 93 is the damage it can do the the rubber is comes in contact with(fuel hoses etc) PRA 41973

Also the airport will not let me store fuel so I am required to bring it in cans. I usually buy 25 gal at a time. I need to buy fuel every day when I am doing training. That makes it too hard to travel 60 miles for fuel.

It may not have anything for you, but the list is updated regularly. I checked the first four on the list. One was updated in July, another October 1, another June 29th, and the last was updated September 7th all of this year.

There was a gas tank problem a few years ago with ethanol. Not sure the difference in octane is what deteriorates the rubber. I believe the ethanol is the culprit.

I see the updates. Thanks for the link. I called the Orem station and they still have 88 octane Clear gas. Not convenient but closer than Heber. $3.99/gal so that looks like the best choice for me.

We have several ethanol-free gas stations around here. That's all I run in my lawn mowers and 4 wheelers and that's all I plan on running in the gyro.

I have a 500 Gallon tank at my house with 450 gallons of 91 octane pure gas. I get it from the same distributor that Delivers to the Pueblo marina. $4:05 a gallon delivered.

Mark:
"I have a 500 Gallon tank at my house with 450 gallons of 91 octane pure gas." I hope you are flying/selling/using this fuel rather quickly. Mogas does not store well, and has a rather short shelflife. I do not know if a product like "Sta-bil" can add a bit to the shelf life?, and what it does to the fuel, which would effect the final burn EGT's. I would not buy/store more than 4 to 6 weeks worth. Also Mogas is manufactured for the Elevation and Season, were it is intended to be used. If you were to buy fuel on the coast and buy fuel in Denver today, from the same named suppler (ie: BP, Exxon, Shell, etc.) the two products have different properties; and will not perform the same.
