Default Barnett plans wanted

Hi everybody, I am looking to acquire plans to build a Barnett J4b2 model or the Brc model or possibly a barnett project now under construction. Would apprieciate any info or leads on where I might find these items. I have a lycoming O235 L2C for the powerplant already so I need to find an airframe and rotor system or plans to build them myself...Thanks ...Jim

Jim

It would be worth your time to give Ron Menzie a call and discuss the BRC with him. He is an instructor in Searcy Ark.

I think Tom Milton might still have a Barnett project in his shop? I seem to recall he wanted to build one, or had one in some stage of building or something. He is very friendly, loves to talk gyros and help out folks, you should look him up here. Or Google Calumet Air. He is also REALLY busy, so be persistent when trying to call.

Default O235

I'm not sure of the HP of the 235, I'm guessing it's about 115. You may wish to reconsider this for a two-seater gyroplane. I'm currently using a Subaru 2.2L with about 135 HP on my J4B2. While it is a fine performer with one person, with two people it is suffers in climb performance during the summer.

There are many things that will affect performance, and the J4B2 can be a reasonable performer with less than 120 HP with two aboard. However, one of the fun things about flying a gyroplane is having an open cockpit. I take my canopy off during the summer and that degrades performance markedly. During the winter, the protection provided by the canopy makes flying a real joy.

The aerodynamics of the body make a significant difference in the performance of the aircraft. However the things that degrade performance make it fun to fly. The Barnett is a joy since it gives me the flexibility to fly with or without the canopy, depending on the weather.

If you want a Barnett and that engine, you may wish to consider the single seater.

I agree Larry, for a two place a 0-320 is really much better, might be able to sell that 0-235 and move up ??

Tony

PS know where there is a good buy on a 0-320

Thanks for the good input ! I thought the O235 may be a little on the low side for powering for a 2 place gyro. There must be a lot more drag in flying a gyro as compared to an airplane. I see that the twin star is using an o-320 so it seems that these folks are using what works best for them. Maybe I will post this engine on ebay and see if there are any takers. Also thanks for the lead on the Barnett project. ....Jim
