This is what I started today. Cut up a kb frame. jig up some legs. This will be for the MZ 202 motor that needs a home. I ordered a KB3 mast to save time, when it gets here it will be a bolt on deal. The gear and drop keel should be done by then. I hope to fit a 72" prop on it.

nice, your like me and do alot in one sitting. I had fun with my KB2. 72 prop is big like the one on my biplane. I know that I will have to put a step to get into my modified 3drv you have any idea how far from the ground your front keel will be? difference between front and rear keel?

I will see if I can get that data today. But just going off of what I know a 72" mast can use a 60" prop with my tall tail. So with a 72" mast and a what looks like a 16" drop keel a 72" prop is not hard to see fitting on it. I might have room for a 75" powerfin. I want to make sure I get that 340+ thrust from it so I can run with the Rotax 582 gyros.
I still want to pull the MZ apart and put it together myself and hope stop the case weeping. it is just small but still gets all over the tail. A good time to see if anything is going bad too, I ordered new gaskets for it already. |

On the jugs, heads, and reed valves just the gasket. But this is weeping at the case and that will be what ever Rotax uses for that. I am thinking it wasn't torqued down right. we will see. I got the gear box , carbs and wires off now. I will pull the clutch and fan next then wait for the gasktes.

I got the new KB3 mast and found out the seat mount is higher by 2" so the old cold rolled mast supports don't fit. I cut the push tube down to let the rotorhead hit the stop before the stick hits the seat tank. Nose gear needs to be lowered 2" too but it looks like it will be a cool gyro to fly. I will post more photos soon. I hope to have it flying at Bensen Days.

Sorry it got dark on me but here is the drop still need the drill holes and you can see the 2x2 under the front wheel that is how much it has to come down or get a taller wheel to level up the keel.

Looking good Brent. Simple just like it should be.....you have any idea what your empty weight might be?

The motor is less than a 503. So I'm not sure but I will put it on the scales when it is ready. It will be lite for sure.

Cool! Looks like a winner. Will you be at Bensen Days with it?

looks good. How did you do that main axle? Is that chromoly in the black attached to aluminum tubes for the long down angled axle attached to chromoly stub axles for the wheel bearings and wheels to slide over? Is it attached at the stub axles and then braced with a spacer at the top triangular point?
Ahh, hell, how about you just post some closer up pictures of the main gear if you have a chance? May be simpler than answering all those questions, a picture being worth a thousand word and all. Thanks for posting and sharing.

I should be there with it. I still need to move the nosegear down 2" and start cutting a motor mount. The last thing of the big stuff will be the tall tail. It looks like 72" prop for sure maybe I will just use the same powerfin that was on the two place and get a new one for it, that sounds right new motor new prop for the two place. I will try and take photos of the tail as it is coming together for the ones that want to know how.
