Graeme...this is actually the song I was thinking of. It's by George Jones Yes County Music...it's my Favorite Friday Song! It's what Friday should be...I used to clock out of work at 5 and turn my radio on and this song would start about 5 minutes later!
Here are the Lyrics: I've gotta hundred dollar smokin' in my billfold I know I outta save it but it's burnin' a hole, Right thru my pocket and into my skin, Come Monday mornin' I'll be broke again (Chorus) It's Finally Friday, I'm free again, I got my motor runnin' for a wild weekend, It's Finally Friday, I'm out of control, Forget the work and blues and let the good times roll, roll, roll I got a little sugar baby down the road, She's sittin on ready and rockin' on go, We'll dance up a storm and later on the night, We'll be workin' on a new one on our own things right (chorus) Ending: Monday I'll be hurtin with my head in a vice, Tuesday I'll be wonderin' if I'll ever survive Wednesday and a Thursday I'll be slowly tunin' in, Friday I'll be revin' up my motor again. |

Let me start with 3 pictures from Saturday. I missed this shot of The Predator banking and I liked the one of Eddie Andreini taxiing back as I made our after act presentation pass. That is Bruno in the back seat landing Saturday afternoon.
We went to bed at Mike’s excited about Sunday's air show. They were predicting less wind and cold with higher ceilings. We got to the hangar at 7:30 and I began the preflight. The tower is the third category down on the Preflight Check List. I did not see the three small cracks on the left side. The crack on the right looked to me like bug splat and there was plenty of that. It didn’t clean off and when I felt it with my fingernail I knew it was trouble. We briefly considered repairing it or even making a new part. I wasn’t scheduled to fly until 1:20 and several of the locals had offered the use of their tools. I found some 6061 T6, a chain hoist and something I could use for a press break. I didn’t feel I could manage the distractions well enough to make a good part and wanted to understand the failure mode better. I contacted the air boss and the announcer. They both felt not flying was a good decision. Ed headed back home to pick up the trailer and I worked at getting The Predator on display with the signs and managing the details of loading the aircraft and having a place to park until Ed returned with the trailer. Ed had her challenges and managed to make the six hour round trip into 11 hours. Everyone was very nice about The Predator not flying. I felt fortunate to have discovered the challenge before it became a non recoverable event. It was still a great disappointment for me not to fly; I had been looking forward to being a little more aggressive in the 12kt winds. I had a lot of fun playing show and tell and every time there was a lull the announcer would announce about the predator not flying and what an air show professional I was for not flying a less than perfect aircraft. A new group would come by wanting to see the crack and marveling that she flies at all. Listening to him I wanted to go meet Vance Breese too. I felt like an imposter. The kids were well behaved and enthusiastic except for the one kid who sat on the horizontal stabilizer. The airshow was finished at 2:40 and Ed had just turned around at San Luis Obispo because she had forgotten the blade covers. I got together with the Vice Mayor and he introduced me to the fellow who owned the Hangar where the supporter’s dinner had been. He introduced me to Ellsworth who was even older than I am and he stopped what he was doing to help pull the blades off The Predator. It was exactly what the book is going to be about. Everyone couldn’t do enough to mitigate our challenges and I had not met most of them before this weekend. We used Ellsworth’s gantry crane to pull the blades and put it and The Predator outside to load up when Ed arrived. There was not room in the hangar for everything so we thought it would be better to leave her outside. The air boss invited me to a wonderful post airshow dinner at the Frazier Lake Airpark, a private airport community with a grass strip and a seaplane runway. Everyone I met was a giant in their own right and they had a three generation band. The food and company was great and at 8:00 Ed was getting close so Mike, Bev and I headed back to CVH to load up. It was challenging in the dark even though there was a nice outside light. At 10:00 Ed and I decided to stay the night with Mike and Bev and we were off by 7:30AM the next day with The Predator close behind looking in the window. When we reached the hangar at SMX I climbed up on the wobbly trailer and Ed handed me wrenches while I removed the offending parts and we headed home for a good rest. Tuesday I headed up to have lunch with Smokey and I have already told that part of the story. My annual is scheduled for the first week in July and the magnetos need there 500 hour service. Thank you, Vance

We were both looking forward to doing some relaxing! Visiting with Mike and Bev is always nice they are both very kind a Cool Chillin’ folks! Mikes was about 5 miles from the Airport as we arrived at the house there was already cars there…felt kind of awkward like showing up late. Mike & Bevs both know that we were finishing up at the hanger so it was all good. I t was also pouring down rain the closer we got to Mikes just as we both got inside it started to hail…it was very impressive and continued for about a half of an hour. It actually looked like snow on the ground. I sat at the table socializing with my flight jacket still on I was cold!
We met some really great people but I couldn’t begin to remember all their names could have been the wine! Bob Rowlands and his Partner M.K. (Margret)Poe (Author of Silicon Seduction who personally brought me that very book she published just a little over a year ago and signed it for me as well! Her and Bob own some property near Flightline and have started a small vineyard and brought their very first bottle grown there to share!! I mostly talk to her I think we are kindred spirits she is a lovely Women who embraces life as we all should! I made a major mistake and ate some sweets that disagreed with me and had to call it an Early night. For those of you who don’t know I have had a Rouyen-Y Gastric Bypass (it’s an irreversible bypass) so certain things that I eat can cause me to have a bad reaction…for each person who has had this surgery they react differently. I get heart palpitations, severe sweating, panic attacks, nausea and vomiting. Sorry to be graphic for some people it’s much worse. This can last for anywhere from 1 to 2 hours for me….so I made my apologies and immediately went to bed. Vance wasn’t far behind as he wasn’t feeling well…as you all know! This probably all for the best as we had to be up bright and early and we were both stressed so rest was a good thing! Saturday morning at about 5am arrived with Mike & Bevs Parrots chatting away…what a fun way to wake up! Vance got up and took his shower…then was my turn. Vance was in the dining area busy printing up his routine…when I finally emerged from the shower. Mike made me a delicious cup of coffee. I loaded up all the stuff for the day while Vance finished up his program and was chatting with Mike. Finally we said our goodbye and see ya at the airport…and we were off! We were early which was a good thing there was much we needed to do I needed a Performers pass so I had unlimited access that was some work I can tell you but eventually we got it figured out! Next was the cleaning of the aircraft (My Job) Vance wasn’t feeling well so he rested an chatted with the ladies club and talked with other pilots….which was good I work better alone! Vance had another pilots briefing at 10am my reminder alarm went off at 9:30am as a reminder and I sent Vance on his way as the location was clear across the other side of the airport from the hanger we were located. So now I was on my own and very hungry Vance suggested the Ding-A-Ling Café…with a name like that I had my doubts but was too hungry to argue. Vance arrived back at the hanger at about 11am and told me to be on the Lookout FISDO whose name is JR. We waited and waited and finally he showed up….Dead Ringer for the ROCK…who I particularly am fond of…sorry Snooks…really I tried not to stare! It was hard! ;-P Finally he gave the thumbs up and moved on his way…it was sad. He He!! Now we are ready to rock & roll but the weather was looking to be a challenge. Things didn’t start on schedule and some people dropped out. Finally it was time to roll Vance out to the Props turning Line. I rolled him out said goodbye wish him well and he was on his way. About 15 minutes later he was up in the air. Now My camera has not been doing well so I didn’t get very good pictures…it’s very depressing actually I feel like I’ve missed so many opportunities that day. Makes me not to want to take pictures anymore…it was frustrating as I am having to use my manual focus and Vance is moving way to fast to get a bead on him. Though all in all my camera has been good to me so I should just shut up and say goodbye and give it a proper burial. ;-( As he started his routine I started in on my picture taking as best I could the wind was just crazy and he was up there performing and impressing you could hear the crowd and there amazed comments! Nice Turns, steep banking all of which I got, but are blurry. Finally it came to his engine out and it was just beautiful a steep descent! Then swoops and the crowd is amazed that this aircraft can do this kind of stuff! Well he is off again nice sweeping turn and figure eights! Then I see him get lift and get quite high and figured OK now he is done and that will be that all of a sudden I hear his engine go out and he is doing a vertical descent…what the hell???!!! I ran like a mad fool to the flight line thinking something was wrong he was supposed to do only one and he was descending at a rapid rate in my opinion! I held my breath…then the engine starts back up he sweeps the crowd ways and is on his way back to the hanger. He lands but doesn’t come back they make all the performers drive past the crowd and wave…and the cheering as he did both sweeps was tremendous. More...Later Happy Sunday Cheers! Ed |

Ed- You are part of the Dynamic Duo I started calling you two a few years ago. Your side of the story adds a lot of color and a different view of our hero-VANCE! Way to go and good job to both you two. Stan

Chris...
It was a Delight to meet you. I do not get the opportunity all the time that Vance does in meeting forum Member so any chance to to meet and have a Charming Breakfast at Big Jocko's was indeed a Great Pleasure! Thanks for including me in your conversation...you never left me out and...putting up with my asking questions. It is amazing what you can learn from somebody in just a short meeting...I learned a lot. You have a way of explaining and a very nice presence about you that didn't make me feel silly for asking such simple questions! Thanks for that! ;-) Tomorrow...I will work on posting Saturday/Sunday Hollister I also have some lovely pix taken with my cell from Mike's Backyard. I will post those as well! Of course they are nothing like My Rebel... ;-( So sad it has issues! Anyway see ya'll tomorrow! Cheers! Ed |

Finally Vance gets back. I pull him in and roll him past the ropes…because as you all know we like to inter-act with the people especially the children.
When I got a rare moment to talk to him I asked him why him why he did what he did. He said that he had more time to spare so he thought he would just do the same thing again, I explained to him what it looked like from my view. He apologizes and said that was not how it felt from the Predators seat. I told him of my panic…I guess need to just learn to trust him. Scary to me at the moment…but all in all impressive. After I got over the moment I tried to focus on meeting and greeting the curious public. We had a real lovely family of four who were so nice the young ladies had a 6 month old baby and three other excited children. I lifted them all into to front seat so they could play pretend…each one had a different reaction. The young wife had offered to drive us around, feed us and if we didn’t have place to stay we could stay with them…Wow! That’s the stuff Vance was talking about real good people are still out there. I spoke to her Husband he said he was from Canada and was having trouble getting a job so he was presently out of work. He is and artist and a painter. I so wish I had a wand that I could wave and help them. Here they are a Family of six the Mother is the bread-winner of the family and he watches the children while she works she comes home every four hours to feed the baby….the age range of all of them was 6 months to about 7 years old…and were hoping god would bless them with more. Now to top this off they offer to do all this stuff for us…I was humbled. Such Good people! Shortly after they left we had two firefighters Man & Woman came up the man stood off to some degree…the Gal however was checking everything out. Finally I asked her if she like to sit in the pilot’s seat. I think she thought I was kidding her face was incredulous…like really can I do that? So the other firefighter got a little more animated and started encouraging her. He couldn’t wait to take pictures he had the camera at the ready…she said yes ad I showed her how to get in and out of the aircraft. She was all over it along with a huge smile to boot! The Guy was snapping away. She was thrilled and thanked me. By that time Mike showed up with his Grandsons & Son-In-Law and the show was winding down. I met Liam last year…he was quiet. This year he had changed only 8 and very friendly and energetic. I found out why he had his big brother Bruno was with him and you could tell Liam looks up to him I will tell you folks Bruno has Character and a style all his own. He was wearing Blues Brother Glasses a Harley Davidson Hawaiian type shirt and a Black leather Jacket that fit him well and Jeans…and he topped the “Look” off with a fedora hat…Kool Kat! He is 18 and just graduated. Mike has a lot to be proud of! This Young man is at the very top of his class and heading off to college. His views point such a positive one! His parents and grandparents did a Great job with those two boys! Bruno and I hit it off immediately. He has an amazing memory and a wonderful way of describing his outlook on life that is like no other young kid his age I’ve ever met! Well…I better head off to bed allergies and a sick Hubby has rather wore me out. I will post more tomorrow…uh…I guess I mean later today. Nite Nite all! Ed

So now it's back to Mike & Bev's to freshen up, change clothes and head back to the airport for the VIP Dinner they were giving to the pilots and other special people for recognition of their outstanding service in the community! I was soon to find out the Grand-kids would be attending the dinner and also spending the night at Mikes.
Vance & I arrived way early and we decided to find ourselves a seat before the RUSH. Good thing too as it was packed and they didn't have enough seating! Pretty soon this Gentleman came up to us and asked Vance what he was flying in the airshow. You should have seen the guy light up. Shortly after his initial excitement he introduced himself as the Mayor of Hollister (Later to find out he is actually Vice Mayor. Mike calls him Marshall Robbie) He asked if we mind if he dined with us and of course we didn't the more the merrier. Shortly after Mike and his Grandchildren show up I was sitting at the very head of the Dinner table with Vance to my left and Mike to my right then Marshall Robbie, Liam Bruno and Bob Mikes son-in-law The caterer was busy getting set up...so I went to get drinks for everyone. I get back to the table and the boys were sitting all the way at the other end of the table and just looked absolutely bored. They were trying to be cool about it but no one was talking to them. I remember as a kid feeling like I had nothing in common with the adults and felt completely left out. So I thought I'd remedy that. I asked Vance if he's mind if I went and sat at the other end of the tables and visited with the Boys he said it was not a problem. Shortly after I noticed Vance, Mike and Marshall Robbie discussing flying and fabrication and all that it entails excitedly. I think I may have impended that process had I sat between them. As for the boys I got Bruno talking about his flight and what he enjoyed about...he just said Vance is my new "Hero" that he was amazed that Vance didn't let anything stop him in his desire to fly an Autogiro. Liam was very interested in Raising chickens and making money in various ways. I was just amazed how clever these boys are Liam is only 8 years old and has all these ambitions and has nothing in his head that would make him think he was not capable of it! More on the marrow! Cheers! ED |

Vance & Ed,
I just read the article in EAA Light Plane World that is posted on the PRA website. I just had to tell you how excellent it was. It held my attention from start to finish and let me experience what it was like for you to participate in such a large scale event. You do a great job of promoting gyros to the public and the aviation professionals as well.
