flat surfaces are not good for aerodinamics, but, remember aluminum tube and fabric its the best chose you can build , and its good looking too , and dont need special tools, solid wood , its ugly ,and heabby

Epoxy glass fabric over airfoil shaped hot wired Dow roofmate. The finish will take more time than building the structure. Attachment points 1.5" diameter flox discs troweled into foam cut outs before glassing. More time consuming than other methods but if you're going to finish anyway bite the bullet. Glass with 9oz bid oriented 0-90 and one 3oz tissue layer if you want to spend less time filling fabric weave for finishing. No spar necessary.

I plan on using a 1" thick foam core wraped in twill weave carbon fiber. Will hopefully have some results in the next few weeks.

Default build a simple horizontal stabilizer

I have found that the quickest easy to build, strongest and lightest is the all metal type with a spar that runs tip to tip with just four ribs, of which two are the end caps and the inner two go on each side of the VS, skin with .020 6061-t6. I have used this type on my small machines with a six foot span and on gyroboats with a twelve foot span with six ribs and tip floats to keep it upright when parked on the water so it is strong and will not need struts or brace wires.
