Default Funny You should ask..

In Full Flight the same as engaging a starter on your car while its running..

But be aware,, it can and will lock up on takeoff if its not adjusted correctly..

and the gyro can run around the ring gear..

I trashed a Sparrow Hawk on takeoff in Hondo Texas because of it..

Just dont try to Pre-rotate after the front wheel leaves the ground.. Thats not needed..

Interesting, Steve. Sorry for that splat.

I took off in my old Air Command one time with the prerotator engaged, and (for that once) the Bendix didn't drop out by the time the wheels came off. She yawed around to the right, but there was enough rudder authority to overcome the torque yaw.

I think I still had the old gutless 447 at the time, though.

The Bendix did drop out after a moment.
