Default Bensen Days educational trip for my 13 year old son.

I need some help from the folks living near or around Wauchula Fla. My 13 year old son and I are coming for Bensen Days this year. To get him excused from school for the trip it has to be an educational trip. Well, any ideas what I am going to list on the paperwork for his school? Like what educational value Bensen Days would be for him, or what other sites that are close we could list that we can say we would see? Get my drift?

Thanks you guys!

Off to work. Hopefully the people aren't restless.

Bryan

Believe it or not, there is a "secret" major animal "Sanctuary" (?) in Wauchula. It is generally not open to the public, but someone may allow you in to write about it for publication in the PRA magazine.
It may be for primates only. I saw it on TV and couldn't believe it was in Wauchula, FL.

Some historically significant personalities are there. Ernie Boyette is really much more important to the development of this sport than we like to let on. Chuck Beaty, Dick Degraw, and Joe Pires are all of great historical significance to this sport.

Foreign language studies provided by Gábor Kovács and his wife Györgyi Kovács.....and maybe Réka Kovács who is a licensed teacher in the state of Florida! Come on man if that doesn't do it I am going to borrow a helicopter and sign a logbook for the kid as his first lesson! LOL

Have your son submit an essay on 'autogyros, an aviation enigma' or some such
historical look at autogyros, and present the trip as a research trip to see the modern perspective, etc, etc,.

Should be worth a few hours homework to get there.

Not a bad idea.

I wont have a gyro at Bdays, but if some pilots want an hour of ground school for their flight review requirements, he can sit in and get a log-book endorsement.

Ask if he can keep a journal for the teacher to review. Where and how he traveled, fuel miles, costs of lodging. Photos of rotary aircraft, interviews, etc.
Most educators are very receptive to 'drag-and-learn' opportunities with family.
Also consider spending a half day at Kennedy Space Center on the way home.

And I am just a transplanted redneck from Georgia!
I put a trailer hitch on my Mercedes Benz!

Seriously, get him to write a paper on aviation pioneers like Juan de la Cierva, Igor Bensen,
Ernie Boyette, and Ron Awad, and shoot, even Jake, he was on TV!

How about this: "He is my son. Not the State's property. I have the right to home school him, I have the right to travel with him and I have the FREEDOM to decide what is best for him. And if I consider this family trip worth-while, I do not need your approval."

If you tell the truth there will be a big problem. All his classmates and teachers will like to follow.

Good man taking your boy out of school for this . Real world beats classroom any day . I take my boy to everything I do , and I'm always trying to make it a life long learning experience for him . I'm fortunate to know Kevin Richey , Jon Dailey , Evan Dagle , Jim Vanek and others . And the moor I can expose my boy to people like this the better . On Saturday Evan Dangle spent time with my boy on an armorers course with my boys Glock 21 . My boy loved it . Jon Dailey spent time with us on gyro topics , And Jim Vanek spent a lot of his precious time with my boy and I Going over all kinds of educational rich aviation , gyro , Sportcopter and other topics . I look at this time as priceless for my boy . And I always emphasis that education is the pipeline for all that is truly cool . And this stuff is cool .
On our way home I always try to ask him " do you think anyone at your school is doing anything as cool as this today " ?
You are doing good taking your boy to this . He will remember this forever .
