I think the guy with the helicopter who was posting in that thread, had some kind of problem with his bird and crashed and died. I might be totally wrong, but seem to remember something happening to a florida pilot with a blue and yellow float equipped mosikito having engine problems, fatally crashing

I'm also following the Viking engine / gyroplane mating with interest. I hope to get a Butterfly gyro in the future, and think that would be a great engine choice - much cheaper than the 912, and plenty of power. Whether or not it will work on the Butterfly still remains to be seen, but I've a bit of time before my dreams become reality... about 28 months of time! (maybe less if things work out better).

I don't see any reason the viking couldn't work on a Gyro, they have made an intake manifold change that is lighter and brings it up to 500 lbs of thrust. They also have an upright engine for those of you that don't have to fit it under a cowling that is in the $10,000 dollar range.

It certainly seems that gyro-specific interest is growing in the Viking with more people looking in this direction. I hope that they in their turn see us as a potential new market.
Guess we will all be interested in how and when Ernie gets his combo in the air. Hopefully it will be before Bensen Days and that he will have it there before it goes over to the people who have ordered it. Ron does make a good point of the amount of money tied up in a single, though I am sure that there are a number of people who would be prepared to do that.

Air-trikes is selling a re-drive for the Fit engine now. I'd bet it is cheaper than the Viking, but nowhere near as well developed. www.Airtrikes.net

How does a 503 do on a dominator? I guess like an ultrawhite? Assume North Carolina, and 200 pound pilot.

It would do just fine. I weigh about 200 and have flown a few Ultrawhites with no trouble at all.

Well, if the combo on the Dominator works out, I'd be interested in seeing if this engine could be fitted to the Butterfly gyros. That 912 Rotax is just SO expensive! Even though the Viking isn't cheap, it's still a financial savings. Still slowly saving here though - gonna be awhile, but the dream is still alive!

The 503 is no longer in production by Rotax and that is why it is not an option from Larry Neal and Butterfly LLC on his Ultralight or Emperor models.

If you want a 503 and can find one cheap that has been fried or has rods sticking out through the case you can still buy new short blocks and transfer your shrouds, fan housing, exaust and carbs and you have a new 503.
