Tim
Thanks for listening! (keep your ears close to the grapevine)
For the Dummies . . .if you are dead, no worries . .. but if you survive whatever . . . then what?
Folks up north are used to snow and cold, down here is another matter alltogether, people die easier here.
Bows and arrows and a good knife will do wonders but food storage will be needed, remember that, for two natural reasons, we can have a couple of months with no sun at all . . .
Been thinking of Food Gulags for a while, get together, plan, prepare the area, just in case. Defenses here must be of the military kind . . .rejoyce Marines! (that means you Steve, I call you to defend our food suply)
I think it is a good time to get in touch with our Natives, they know best about survival, been here for so long and all . . .easy for me, not so for you Right Wing Hardened Hearts (sounds about right for a Bleeding Heart Liberal)
Most of all, good luck to all survivors!
Protect your Family

My favorite Mormon neighbor and I are in a contest to see who has the most supplies .
He has me beat . He has a family of 5 and I have a family of 4 . He has enough for a year and I have enough for 6 months . His garage looks like a mini CastCo . My garage looks like a Harley crashed into a plane that then crashed into an armory that then exploded . I need to clean my garage .

I look at emergency preparedness, much like I look at being prepared for anything else. Hopefully we are all putting money aside and preparing for the day when we will retire and no longer be bringing in a full time income. If we are not, then we are very likely to be in for some very hard times in the future. Hopefully we all have fire extinguishers around our houses and shops and smoke alarms and CO2 alarms spread out around our homes. That doesn't mean we are planning on a fire or believe one is immenent, it simply means that we are doing all we can to insure that if something like that happens to us, we will survive and have a chance to start over.

While it may be more interesting to consider what will happen if our world (at least as we know it) comes to an end, the truth is for most of us, we will have our own little emergencies, way before the rest of the world comes crashing down. For most of us, it will take the form of losing a job or a change in the economy that severly changes our economic situation. For some it may be as simple as a natural disaster, like "Katrina", or for around here where I live, it is most likely going to come in the form of a major earthquake. But regardless of what form it takes, we are all very likely to have challenges or disasters happen in our lives. If you were living from day to day and have not put anything away for a rainy day or if you are fully dependant on the services your community provides to you and they are disrupted, life could be rather hard on you. Because we live in a climate that gets cold during the winter, having alternative sources for food, water and electricity could spell the differences between a minor inconvenience and a life threatening situation. Personally I chose to be as prepared as I am capable of being and multiple times already in my life, due to the loss of a job or change in financial situations the food storage that we have had in place and sure made dealing with the situaion much easier.

Being better prepared for emergencies would be a good thing for all of us!

Doug

Gary,

Your neighbor has a large food stockpile. You have guns. That means you also have a large food stockpile, you just store it in your neighbor's garage.

I will worry about the coming apocalypse the day a Brazillian wins a NASCAR race.

I figure a good stock of 22 ammo and 12 gauge shells, cheap ones, will be a good currency if anything like that were to happen. Those are probably the two most common guns owned in the US. People will want ammo and be willing to trade for it. Keep the good ammo and food for yourself. Beans and rice and more beans and rice.
