Default How much does a Cessna 172 engine cowl cover weigh?

Doing a weight and balance for my Cessna 172. Don't have a scale and was wondering how much an average Cowl cover weigh for this plane. Tried to look it up, but only came up with "light weight design". What should I put, 5 lbs? 10 lbs?

It depends on the year model. You should be able to use the weight and balance information from your required documentation in the aircraft. Otherwise, the correct procedure is to have it weighed by an A&P in a shop with the appropriate equipment.

Trying to come up with a weight and balance on your own by estimating the weight of all the fiddly bits is unreliable and potentially dangerous.

Curious as to why you would need to know how much the cowl weights??

It should have been included in the initial weighing of the airplane.

Brett,

My bad. I never look at links.

I just assumed it was some aviation student at a community college with a professor doing a make-work project. Good catch.

Either way, it was a waste of time.

He's hoping someone will click on that link & spend some money, or in some cases attacking your computer with malware to con you into buying a "cure" that they conveniently offer, redirecting your browser or giving you pop-up ads, or by even by stealing personal information.
