Default Want to buy a helmet that fits over aviation headset

Just a basic helmet that I can use to fit over my headset instead of one with the headset built in. I am going to buy a new Lightspeed ANR headset and want to try using it in the gyro and need a helmet to protect my head too. Anyone got one for sale or know where to look for one to buy? thanks

Ron,
I saw someone use a Navy flight deck helmet to do that. It may not offer as much protection as you're looking for. Do a search on ebay for "Flight deck" and you should find a couple on there. A military tanker helmet may also work. Just remove the earpieces from the helmet liner (and mic) and it should fit over your headset. The tanker helmet may offer a little more protection than the flight deck helmet. You can find those on ebay also.

careful on ebay. there are many surplus old gentech helmet. RAD and comtronics use dynamic mic and single cable. You can che flightsuits unlimited in Cajon CA. Now expect to pay $1000.00 for a brand new helmet. I paid 900 last time. ALso in a cabint aircraft electrec Mic sound superb. But on open frame they will magnify noise in a broad band spectrum vs. Dynamic. SO is a trde of. I suggest a foam and a leter cover over the micke. Oregon aereo sells them very good.

I use a surplus Gentex helicopter helmet with my friend's ultralight intercom. All I had to do was purchase an adapter cable that plugs in between the helmet cord and the intercom and it changes the impedence of the military electronics to make them compatable with the civilian intercom. His intercom uses the dual plugs so that's the type cable I ordered. The cable was $60.00. A single type intercom plug adapter cable may be available. I also replaced the foam in the earpieces for about $25. I have both dark and clear visors. I've got $160 total invested in it. It works great!

Ron,
Aircraft Spuce & Spec. has a helmet shell made to work with David Clark headsets. It may fit others as well.

Default Headset Helmet

David Clark produces a helmet that fits nicely over the David Clark line of headsets. You can order it from any David Clark dealer.

Ron I know this is not the thread you were asking in for a patch cord for playing music in your headset but on Sporty's they have a add for this unit.

Cell Phone Headset Adapter
Utilize the noise cancelling capabilites of your headset while using your cell phone in your plane with Sporty's new Cell Phone Headset Adapter. The adapter allows you to use your phone and listen to ATC at the same time without blocking either signal. The adapter also allows your passengers to listen to a portable CD player or MP3 player through the headset

Looks like what you were wanting.

Mike

cheap, you want cheap?

I took an old BELL half helmet and some autoparts store rubber trim; cut out styrofoam liner to accept the head band, cut the helmet to fit the ear cups and there you go.

I like Robert's way of thinking. Why spend hundreds when $60 and a little work will do. Nice job Robert!

Robert,
Be interested in how you like the Stratus. Everybody that flies with me tries mine on and then buys a set. Then they start worrying about out how they'll tell their wife!

Default Headset question

Are your passengers flying tandem or sxs ?

Does the stratus headset provide better noise reduction for really noisy machines like gyros ?

I have sensitive hearing and dont want to lose anymore than I already have. so spending a few bucks on something I cant buy (my hearing) is a good investment I think.
