The GyroxGoesGlobal circumnavigation says that the Japanese are the last hope for world record gyro flight as the Chinese say no. We need your help! We are now calling for help from all the loyal supporters out there to help bring this phase of the journey to a satisfying conclusion for all. Please contact the Japanese authorities where you are and ask them to support Norman's world record flight by giving him clearance to transit their great country. See what to do @ the blog.. http://gyroxgoesglobal.blogspot.com/...orman-and.html .

I will be faxing a letter on PRA letterhead to the US embassy later today indicating support of the GyroxGoesGlobal flight by the PRA.
Here is the email for the Japanese embassy for the USA, but it is the information centre... jicc@ws.mofa.go.jp It may be of some help though if you can ask them to forward it on. .

I received this e-mail today. I don't believe they got the purpose of my e-mail. We were all hoping the individual embassy(s) would petition the Japanese government to allow Norman Surplus passage.
Dear Mr. Milton, Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do for him from Chicago. Our recommendation is for him to contact the Japanese Embassy in the Philippines, since that’s where he’s currently located. Best Regards, Marisa Spasser Political and General Affairs Consulate General of Japan at Chicago 737 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1100 Chicago, IL 60611 TEL: (312)280-0413 FAX: (312)280-9568 mspasser@japancc.org http://www.chicago.us.emb-japan.go.jp/

You might just have to spell out what you want them to do Tom, as they obviously did not gather it from your first letter.

Reading the blog the Russians are holding things up, according to facebook, the Japaneese are holding things up. According to earlier reports the Chinese are holding things up. Basically NO COUNTRY wants to this guy navigate. The Russians, need at least a few cases of vodka and 10 grand would get the paperwork done. The Chinese need money to let you ENTER AND LEAVE... Never ever catch me going to China. Too many horror stories about families getting separated from their kids when they get kidnapped by authorities and shake down for thousands at the airport to leave.. Personally know a couple that had the goons take their kids and need a "permit $$$" to leave......US Embassy did squat !
And Japan ? If you valued your life you would stay far away from the radiation over there. Tons of toxic radio active materials covering thousands of square miles. I think my dive instructor told me something that applies here and that is: " you could dive in only 30' of water and not see it all in one lifetime. The point being in the big scheme of things diving to record depths (or flying around the world) means about as much as walking the beach. Why put yourself at risk when you could do less and see more ? J

I hope he is able to get through the red tape, but after having dealt with foreign consulates, he would be far better off to approach the local medias in those countries and generate interest in seeing him complete his journey than bribing them.
I would have thought that he would have secured safe passage rights throughout his journey BEFORE leaving, did something change? Ben S

I do not share your perspective. I prefer to focus on the ways to overcome challenges rather than the challenges themselves. I find if I focus on the challenges it is harder to maneuver around them. In my experience expanding perceived limitations has value. It is my observation many find the cost too high and are not motivated enough to pay the price; after all why fly when you can walk the beach? Norman seems to be motivated and willing to make the commitment. I suspect he will find value in the effort even if success of the record eludes him. I have found unanticipated joy and learning opportunities in adventures. I feel the more challenging the goal the more fulfilling the quest. My regrets in life are about opportunities I did not seize rather than things that didn’t work out. Thank you, Vance

I don't understand why he didn't just go to the UN one day and ask all to give him clearance...duh!
Other than that; I appreciate Mr. Surplus's efforts and grand voyages. I am positive he is having some truly unique and interesting experiences. I would have sent petitions to the Japanese Consulate, but RUSSIA?? ForgetAboutIt. I wonder if they would allow JetMan to cross the Volga? |
