Sorry but I'm m the first to give true data out. I have 11 boxer diesel engines myself. The weigth I'm talking about is bullet proof... as all the stuff I'm m doing. I'm mechanical engineer and I do that boxer diesel stuff for fun / passion. You will see soon.

"Hi Folks,
I'm the person that import the Subaru diesel to the US. The picture above is my engine as well...
I have all the specs, weight, size... on request. I'm the only one that provide complete engine in the US.

See you soon.
Greg"

Greg, did you forget about me?
I believe Greg may be the first to bring one of these engines to the US but, I also import Subaru EE20 diesel engines, and have two in stock now with more on the way. I have not mated an ECU to the engines for aviation use, but have several companies who can do it. See attached pictures of the actual engines to see what comes with them. I also have EZ30, EZ36, EJ253, EJ255, FB20 & FB25 engines available as well. All of the engines I am marketing are new engines, from Japan, that have never been installed in a car. Call me for more details. Mark Heuett / Pacific Powertrain 509-243-7878

This is really a short, wide engine, nice to fit into a side-by-side
wide cabin firewall.

Mark, could you confirm the weight?

What? you did not sold your 2 in stock yet ?

probably people come to me because I provide them with exhaust pipe, turbo, DPF, flywheel, alternator, A/C, stock ECU, heavy duty diesel starter and original boxer diesel cover engine.

Mark,

good luck with your 2 engines that are not plugged. Be carreful, dust and gravel can go into the engine if not protected...

I found just the ECU for this engine. Link: http://www.specialist-components.co....antPageDisplay . This driver can easily control the motor SUBARU 150HP version and 180HP (after tuning: http://www.koch-subaru.de/files/suba...87ps_405nm.pdf ). It should only load the injection map from the PC. Price first piece 5000GBP. After each further from 982,50GBP with minimum order 5pcs. Larger orders, the price lower.

Sorry for you engine builder...
I have very little detail except that Brian believed he could reduce the weight of the diesal .Now, how he was going to do that, I do not know but I have no doubt that if he said he could do it, then it must have been achievable.

I think with loosing Brian, the project has died too. Most of the dedicated gyro builders / engine builders etc, work out on their own using their own money to develop stuff and it doesnt come cheap plus finding the time.

Yes, it is a huge loss , a great guy with a wealth of information on Subys.

Apparently a fall off a ladder caused a head injury leading to complications that resulted in death so when using a ladder, be careful !!

Wow! If we can solve this ECU thing that would help a lot. 5000GB is a bit steep though!

Default Subaru Boxer Direct Drive HP is 135HP at 750rpm

Assuming the info below is correct, that equates to 88 hp @ 1800 rpm, or, approx 135 hp @ 2750 in a direct drive configuration.

Coraview

Engine type: Horizontally opposed 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbo diesel
Displacement: 1998cc
Max power: 110kW (150hp) @ 3600rpm
Max torque: 258 lb.ft. @ 1800rpm

Can someone tell me how much will weigh all the other stuff for this engine (exhaust, turbo, alternator, fluid, cooler, etc)? This engine can achieve 156HP at 2800rpm without PSRU ( I wrote about this earlier )!

Default weights and measures

From what I had read the boxer engine was going to weigh in about 10 to 20 lbs heavier than the gas engine. My all up weight of my 2.2 and psru was either 300 or 350 lbs, I am thinking it was 300 and the mazda rotary was 350....lbs. . I forget as it was a long time ago, psru weighs about 50 lbs. boosting horse power to weight, with the diesel you could be talking a bit more as the turbos, intercooler, related plumbing can really add up. I do not think you are going to save any weight BUT if you can BOOST the BOOST, you can make this engine SING !!!

And is sounds like this.....

weeeee wweeeeee weeeeeee

all the way home !

seriously the turbo really wakes these sleeping monsters up. I am sure longevity goes down a bit but, a that is what a longer rotor blade is for.

I would just love one to be able to mix my own fuel and say screw you to the greedy fuel companies and gangster banksters that are gaming the markets enron style.

Jonathan.

I have worked with www.banksglobaltransport.com or you could try UPS.

Here is solution : http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/217...vample1boo.jpg
This chart is optimized under the Subaru diesel engine. This gives you 160HP at 2800 rpm.

The Torque tables can be modified with EcuTeK software to produce the Torque curve you desire.

Here is the Initial Torque Demand by the driver using the Accel pedal: http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/4599/image001zi.jpg

Very interesting.

Running this engine in direct drive would give
sufficient hp/weight ratio without psru.

Running it at such low rpm should also significantly improve
the reliability and TBO of the engine.

I am using a 2.2 l 135hp Citoren diesel since 10 years,
drove over 220.000 km.
Assuming average speed of 70km/h this is over 3000h.
Runs still like a charm.
At (my usual) highway cruise speed of 140kpm (90moh)
the engine revs 3000 rpm.

I agree. This diesel engine would run for a long time once installed. My records show that my recently bought Tandem Air Command weighs 550 lbs empty. It has a Fuel Injected EJ22 installed and 28 ft Dragon Wings. The AUW with two persons is approx 1150 lbs.

I have read a thread regarding Anthony Spagnoletti's Tandem Air Command with an empty weight of over 700 lbs with an Ecotec 2.0 L engine with 160 hp at 4400 RPM.

If the 2.0L Subaru Boxer Diesel is substituted, and even if there is an increase in weight by an extra 100 lbs over my EJ22, that would still bring the empty weight to approx 650 to 700 lbs. This would still enable it to be flown under the Sport Pilot rules if the Gross Weight is kept below 1320 lbs.

The actual Diesel Boxer engine weight still seems unclear. In any case, using this engine should have the following advantages:

High TBO (possibly 3500 hours or more?)
More miles to the gallon for diesel fuel, therefore greater endurance
Great for cross country flying, by using Jet A fuel (with 2 stroke oil mixed)

The long term savings in cost of operation should be substantial. I hope that someone will be able to get a pricing and weight of the engine with the ECU soon. Looks very promising, even if it weighs more than the EJ22.
