Default Rotor Straps

I am going to replace my rotor straps. What should be used: Mild Cold rolled or heated steel?

Not to argue Jim, but most gyros for years have used cold rolled steel 1018 for the blade straps. Check out the plans I sent you and I have alot of others that show the same thing .125 cold rolled steel for the straps. As for your question jsligar1 replace them with the same material as the manufacture. Using other materials may get you into trouble, stronger material may not have the ability to bend and absorb loads as originally designed into it. Replacing with 4130 when originally it was 1018 could get you into trouble.

I have seen 4130 work harden and become brittle. Considering that it is bolted to aluminum on both ends, high strength steel may not be the best material. I agree with David, use what the person who made the blades and hub bar used, he probably knows something. That much 4130 isn't very expensive, so cost probably wasn't the reason. Cold roled is a lot easyer on files and saws. Remember no nicks, because that is where cracks start. Thank You, Vance

Thanks for the response.
I think the answer is cold rolled.
