"Orientated"
"Genetical" And for what it's worth, I've always hated the word "participle". Somehow just the sound of it makes me angry... don't know why. And "Dangling Participle" just sends me over the edge!

It seems religion did matter a lot in this election; this recalls me the crash of the sole Mc Cul. J2 gyro in Canada (about 15 to 20 years ago, it was in the Rotocraft mag. of this time) on the firewall, there was an inscription:
"GOD IS MY COPILOT"... No comment...

Mr. Obrien,
Your post about English reminded me of a Gallagher show I saw a few years back. He started with one word like Comb and then tried to prounce tomb, and daughter and laughter... it was really funny. I was trying to find a reference to it on the internet and ran across this http://www.lifesmith.com/english2.html you might enjoy it. Thanx for your service Sir. js

The reality is someone outside our borders always wants something their way so we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. If you know of a better place - go for it! Too many forget that unless you're a citizen you're a guest of this nation and these people. No one is forcing anyone to live here. We Americans have chosen our leader and the nice thing about this country is that you can always emmigrate if you don't like it here.

Heron,
Our country was attacked by terrorists for years without a response because of American leaders who worried about what the world would think. John Kerry lost, in part, because Americans believed he would have been another such leader. Leadership means doing what you believe is right when you know it will be unpopular. In this case, doing what he thought was right turned out to be a successful bet for President Bush. |

Andre,
I traveled your country in civil and military capacities for 35 years, prior to my retirement. Since then, I have crossed the western provinces on numerous occaisions in my Super Cub. My ventures have ranged from the most western parts of the Yukon to Goose Bay. For several years, I traveled all of the Central Provinces, in a sales capacity, usually in light aircraft. Unfortunately, I have yet to see Quebec, other than on several fly overs, but I hope to some day. My impression of Canada is that it is one of the most beautiful places that there is on earth. The people have proven to be as friendly and sincere as those of the state of my birth, Texas. There is, however, a hint of melancholy observed in Canadians if you observe long enough. I haven't tried to analyze it too deeply, but I believe that you could sum it up as resignation. Canadians are resigned to the fact that they are limited in their potential because the nearly socialistic system dictates it. I have seen the same malaise in the British. Few feel that there is really hope that their plight in life is going to improve dramatically because the system isn't going to allow it. They will settle for the high taxes, relatively low wages, high unemplyment, second-rate (socialized) medical care, and general malcontent because that's just the way it has been, and probably will be. It doesn't stop them from complaining though. I had a customer in Sault St. Marie who had immigrated to Canada from Germany with his family. He was smart, ambitious, and a very hard worker. After ten years in Canada, he told me " I don't know why I came here. I thought it was an opportunity for my family, but I should have gone to the U.S. instead. The government is not going to allow me to succeed here, as I should" I have never had anything to say to a Canadian before about what I feel is your sad situation, but I feel that you have opened the door by criticizing the President who we have elected to keep us from following Canada's poor example. We are really not that concerned what the world press thinks of us, and we sure aren't looking for approval from the U.N, or the people of France or Germany, all of whom have literally sold their soles to the devil, and now chastize the United States for defending it's own citizens, and the downtrodden people of Iraq. If you check the websites for the American Communist and Socialist Parties, you will see that they also dislike Bush terribly. They demanded that the people rise up and defeat Bush in this election. Well, they weren't successful! And neither were the left leaning presses from the so-called allies in Western Europe, Canada, or even the U.S. The largest number of people that ever voted for a President of the U.S. (over 59 million) voted for Bush because he will stand up for the way of life that Americans want. Please excuse my rambles, but you kind of tripped my trigger. If you are happy with your situation, then I am happy for you, but I'll take mine any day. God bless America! |

If memory serves me right there was another president who created a firestorm with his "right wing " policies such as MX missiles and medium range missiles in Europe to counter the soviet SS18s and 22s. The protests made lots of headlines and he was decried as a warmonger. His "tax cuts for the rich" increased overall net income and the treasury by twofold (the only problem was that a democratic congress spent it as fast as he created it). I was proud as hell to serve under him and he was proved right when the Soviet Union fell. His name Ronald Reagan...

If you believe AOPA and EAA: General Aviation won! Had that horse-faced feller won, I think I'd a been lookin' ta bunk with Birdy and the rest of the OZ crew for the next 4 years. Not that I have anything against Canada, it's just a mite to close to the fall-out zone! (JMHO)
