Default El Mirage Fly In

Well, I have heard from more than one person that a newbie like myself should really check out the Fly In at El Mirage. I'm planning on going up on Saturday, Sept. 25th.
I've never been up to El Mirage so any advice on what I should bring for the day.
I would also like to know if anyone will be doing any demo flights in a tandem for someone like me. I'll gladly bring gas $$$$$ for the person who can get me in the air.
Also, I don't have an RV so are there any port a potties set up for this event or should I bring a shovel for the desert sand. I'm sure my wife and kid would like some advance notice on this point.
OK, that's it. Looking forward to meeting everyone I can out there. Thanks.

Hello Sean, We will have port a potties at El Mirage. Not sure about a tandem, but there should be plenty of gyros and gyronuts to talk with. The glider will be flying, but there is usally a line of people wanting to go up, so be there early if you want some air time.

Ice chest full O stuff, sunscreen, chapstick, water, camera, chairs, shade, snacks, oh and $15.00 for the gate pass for a day.
You will have to go to the other end of the dry lake, from the entrance where you pay.
And things will get a little dusty (You get to drive on the lake bed) good times! and Good people to meet.

Sorry don't put all this in the ice chest..

...and please...NO DIGGING!

Also important - try to stand upwind from any landing helicopters, especially Chinooks.

If there's a big local turnout, Saturday will get pretty busy, but a great day to see lots of different machines.

If you're driving a rental car across the lake bed at 60 mph watch out for whoop-d-do's that will send you airborne.

Well if you are planning to do just that apparently we have a brand that has been tested by our highly skilled test pilot and withstood the whoop-d-do. The brand would be Nissan...............

Default The Predator is down for maintaince!

My side plates have been machined for larger teeter needle bearings because the smaller inner races are no longer available in the correct length..

My new larger inner races for the teeter bearing came in but the new needle bearings didn’t so the Predator is still apart. They are supposed to be in tomorrow in the early afternoon so depending on the weather I may still spend the night in Santa Paula and fly to El Mirage on Thursday morning.

It was foggy here until almost noon so El Mirage is still probably a two day trip. Fog in the morning and evening along the coast and big head winds in the afternoon at William J Fox field.

If Friday comes and the Predator is still down we will drive up.

Thank you, Vance
