Default Nice BMW Conversion

A BMW R1100 102hp powered trike arrived this week at our airfield, It was the first time to see this conversion in the flesh. This engine is one neat installation, It has a frewheeling clutch and is one of the sweetest sounding motors I've heard. Here's a few pics. would look good on a bare bones Dominator tandem..

Hello,

A friend here has the same setup and it really is sweet. Starting with the purring soft sound and not ending with a mad thrust output, which lifts the trike up at a 45 Degree angle.

Kai.

He says there isn't much vibration, except for a bit of resonance a around 2100rpm, 50rpm above or below and the vibes are gone. He has 100 hrs on the machine

Besides being a very nice looking setup and a really cool looking prop. You take some awsome pictures, every detail in focus, clear, and sharp.

That is a nice looking setup!!!
With all these new engines being used maybe Rotax will feel some competition over the next few years and lower their price, either way it all good for us.

I flew a Neuform-prop on my last excursion. Less noise and and more thrust. Just what we need. I wonder what the numbers will say, when the re-assess the noise level.

Hey nice Massey Ferguson 135 there in the background...

Does he have any problem keeping the cyl heads cool? Very nice looking conversion.

Scott,
Looks like that MF tractor is getting close to becoming a 'pusher'...

I'm guessin' it's an 'oil-head', hence the oil cooler?, in the second pic. Looks like the perfect way to tame the BMW cooling problem.....
I have a BMW boxer and would love to do THAT conversion....Beautiful!

Hi Kai, What aircraft was the Nuform prop on?

Trez, yep its the oil cooled head engine, I asked the owner about the cooling and if it ran hot, he said he had to put a bit of duct tape on the oil cooler to get the temps up a bit. though his cruise rpm wold be a bit lower than a gyros.

here's a link to another bmw conversion gearbox maker, I think it was discussed on the forum before:
