Hey guys,
I haven't flow a gyro yet (I've been flying airplanes for a few years now). Once again idea of flying gyros is on my mind. I'm 25 years old and about to finish my airplane CFI/CFII and MEI so I won't be able to start my training or build any time soon but I'm trying to get as much info as possible regarding flying gyros. So far my favorite is Dominator Ultra white (I guess I like the "simplicity" of it). Any pictures ideas regarding building and flying Dominator Ultrawhite? |

Ive been flying mine for 3 years and I love it. Its a great Flying Machine. In my opinion its one of the safest Gyros out there. Its a well built machine with a great safety record. We fly off a grass strip and do a fair amount of off field landings. It does very well on rough surfaces. Some say the gear is too long but you need that to get centerline thrust and good suspension travel. I wouldn't have it any other way.

If you are under 200lbs suited up you will get good performance from the 503.
The 582 gives great performance, the gyro has proven itself to be very reliable. Its a gem, and I cant see myself ever selling it. |

I'm 205lbs and trying to lose weight down to 190 (we will see about that) so 503 could be not strong enough, is that what you are saying?
How about rotor blades? |

I weigh about 220 and fly at sea level. 503 is enough but just enough. If you get to 190 the 503 will be fine..but since you are just as likely to end up eventually at 225 you wont regret the 582. Yes you will definitely need rotor blades.

Me too, I wouldn't fly without them.

Well, Paddy, you won't fly LONG without them at any rate.
I've flown a few 503 Ultra-whites and a 1-place full-dress 582 Dominator. I owned a 2-place full-dress Dom. with a 912S. All had adequate power (I weigh 175), though the bigger engines are an extra fun kick in the pants. If I were in the market for another 1-place "production" gyro today, I'd buy a 503 Ultrawhite. |

If you could fit a 72 inch prop on to a bare bones 503 Ultrawhite, I wonder how it would perform?

Paddy,
Dad's first Dominator built in 1989 was just that. It was 72 in prop and could get off in less than 30' in calm wind. He never put it in production because everyone complained the seat was too high. I will post a picture of it tomorrow if I can.
