Default How To Do

We need a HOW TO DO category in and on every thing on this Rotary Wing Form site. I read it once on what every thing does but that was a long time ago and I need a refresher corse on it again, I'm only 48 yrs. Maybe I'm loosing it. lol. Does anyone have this problem as well?? In other words, I had a hard time in finding out how to install a (Post New Thread) on this page and how to do it. If U would. Send me to that INFO page. If not, then Please Creat One on "How To Do It" and what does each of the words do. U know what I mean. Thank U.

Why do people write loosing it when they mean losing it?

Inventer (also spelled wrong) - go to "forums" at the top of the page.
click on the forum you are interested in posting within.
Then on the top left of the page click on New Thread.

Now write your head off.

Perhaps it is his spell check.
I like to discuss politics. My spell checker suggests "sanity" every time I type "Hannity." Leave it to Gates!

Anyone can find mistakes in their favorite fish wrapper.
Anyway he got his point across.
Be forgiving and helpful. That counts too.

Ray I was forgiving and helpful I went through the steps needed. Everyone here seems to write loosing instead of losing.... spell checker wont catch it only knowing the difference will. That was a general rant not just for inventer. I had to write that somewhere and here was where it landed.

Some people don't notice that Hannity and Sanity are completely worlds apart.

Inventer please forgive me if you feel flamed.... you were not the target.

I went to Heath Grammar School which was in a large victorian building.

Above the double Oak entrance doors (teachers only of course) there was a large stone carving declaring the school name and motto. The stone mason had carved "Heath Grammer School" with the e in grammer overcarved with an a to correct the spelling.

None of us are pefect and we all make mistakes and its easy to mis-type something, but using the wrong word can make a big difference. For instance when reviewing CV's for engineers a few mistakes I allow for, but more than 2 or 3 spelling mistakes or big grammatical errors will end up with it thrown in the nearest trash bin. If they don't put the effort into getting a CV accurate how can they expect to work in an environment where attention to detail is essential.

That said spelling and Grammar on the forum makes little difference it is just annoying. Using the correct terms for PPO, PIO, cyclic, collective etc. are a lot more important.

The increasing use of incorrect speech, spelling and grammar in this country is very sad and alarming (as are many other things). Of course there have been and will always be mistakes. But make no mistake, things are getting worse much faster now (or maybe it's just me getting old).

Probably the worst example is "Where are you at?". This misuse used to be fairly rare, but is now quite common. I have heard it used by news anchors, and otherwise highly educated persons. It is, of course, obviously redundant and incorrect as you have already expressed the requested location by saying "Where are you?".

And I don't buy the "evolving language" theory on this and many other mistakes.
We used to write correctly by:
1. learning what was correct in the first place
2. using a dictionary when needed
3 proof reading our work (a lost art due to our increasing impatience)
Of course that antiquated task of using a dictionary is a little more time consuming, but also results in a better learning experience than using a spell checker which essentially lets the machine do the thinking (and is not always correct).

I'm only a music teacher, but I also grade writing papers. Those of you who do write well should go volunteer to grade language arts papers at your local middle or high school. You will come away nearly in tears.

The other one which I hate is the misuse of "which" when incorrectly used as a reference or after thought in the last part of a sentence. This example is very hard to explain, but those of you who do write well know exactly what I mean.

I'm sorry for not indenting my paragraphs. The software will not accept what is correct.

I apologize for the rant. I'm far from perfect, but it's a sore subject with me. I'd like to see things get better instead of worse.

I always get a kick out of people who are selling products ( like helicopter kits or parts ) or other services where you would expect a very smart, skilled, and educated person to be in charge.... yet the spelling is worst than my 7 year old sons.

Flyboy I quit reading and posting for quite a while after you and I got into it. My point isn't to attack you, but for you to know you turn people off to this forum when you make callous statements. I'm not thin skined, I just come to this forum to relax and enjoy sharing my excitement for the sport.

Russ if you mean me I apologize. I not only don't want that to happen but regret it. Sometimes I - l like others here - get passionate. I don't want to turn anyone off. Maybe in standing my ground I get too intense. Sometimes I read things here that make me nuts.... things that scream for a retort, but at the end of the day, if push came to shove, I believe we are all brothers - in spirit - and in gyro and would gather the wagons in a circle ultimately. I have already apologized to Inventer from the start, as he was not a target.

Tim yes you got me with that dont vs don't. I am a complete hypocrite. I have corrected it now lest I set a bad example to the youth of our world.

Next!

My parents used to say to me, "You only think as clearly yourself as you are able to express yourself to others". It's not all just about dotting the i's and crossing the t's.
