Mark Greene recommended a fly-in to go to. I flew to Pontiac and the field was packed with fixed wingers who flew in for breakfast.
Here is a picture of Mark and Cathy Greene standing in front of one of the ultralights that flew in.

This is typical at fly-ins....most people gather around gyrocopters.
Most of the other aircraft just sit there. We are such an unknown group...it still amazes me. I thought everyone was effected by "The Road Warrior" like I was. Stan

Cool. Must have been chilly there, it was cool here, almost chilly. Still shorts and t shirt weather unless you were flying open cockpit.

Stan,
It's nice to see someone that flies as much as you do as evident by all of the photos. Keep it up! |

Stan,
Thanks for the picture of us, but now how do I remain anonymous when I go to Mentone? Talked with my Trike flying buddy at work on Monday. He tried twice to fly to Pontiac, but got worn out by the trashy air getting to altitude, called it a day and hangared it. He had a buddy with a Kitfox start out on the first trip, and quit after 10 minutes. Kind of shows you how well gyros handle the wind, since you were not disturbed by the same conditions. Sorry we couldn't have flown in to join. This is the second year in a row mechanical problems have prevented me flying to that get-together. Hope you had a quiet trip back home.

Mark: I had several pilots comment on how rough it was.....one commented to me..."I bet you really have to have a strong stomach in that thing"
There was a lot of thermo activity..and I specifically let go of the controls with only occasionally correcting by a nudge. I really dont have any plans of selling my RAF for years. I am that satisfied with it. Stan

Stan,
You didn't give any of those guys a ride did you? That you'd have been an eye opening experience for them. |

Don: I didnt give any rides. I am not satisfied with the liability issue. I know I cant get sued if I fly solo.....I just take up my immediate family...that was my intentions before I even bought my RAF.
I do fly it a lot.....its a nice cross country machine. Stan

Stan, Great picts! Looks like a fun time. I had the same experience last weekend, lots of FW ultralighters pooping out because of wind that I hardly even noticed in my gyro.
