Default Dead stick landings

We've heart from many gyro pilots that, in case of an engine out on a CLT gyro nose will pitch down dramatically.
It is absolutely wrong and the video here proves that this is no true. Aviomania G1sA is a 100% CLT gyro.

Cool machine. I was in training last week and a lot of the landings practiced were power out (not engine out, we were only simulating an engine out) and actually I liked this type of landing and it really helps to boost your confidence that an engine out is really not anything to be scared of.

Giorgos,

You are absolutely correct that in the case of a 100% CLT machine the nose will NOT drop with a power reduction nor will it raise with a power increase. Your machine is like my Monarch in that if you want to shorten your glide you must give a little forward stick pressure.

You have a beautifully flying machine and I love that BIG horizontal.

Giorgos, again a great video demonstrating your lovely machine.

Always such a pleasure to see it in action.

I certainly wish the Bensen I am presently training on did not have such a pronounced nose down attitude required to keep the approach speed stable. I am presently maintaining 55, as instructed.

What speed are you using for that approach?

Every pilot has to know his gyros speed that gives him the longest distance without power and the speed which gives the lowest rate of descent. You can shorten the glide but you cannot stretch it in case of an engine out.
The glide speed here was 40 MPR.

The engine out tests were made from 35 to 60 mph and the gyro responds as normal. Even SIDE SLIPPING was tested with engine out to check if the tail is still powerful without the prop wash acting on it.. and guess what..... yes.. it is still powerful and stability is still high.

What is interesting with G1sa " Genesis" is that if you don't move the stick when the engine cuts out, the gyro GENTLY lowers its nose and maintains 45 Mph .... there is no need of IMMEDIATE response from the pilot.... just choose your landing spot.

You are of course right Giorgos, but we have just changed the engine, and the drag profile with the radiator, and 4 bladed propeller. I am still working out the best speeds without assuming that these have remained the same.

I think due to my inexperience and very basic instrumentation my instructor would rather I do not get too slow until I get more experience in the aircraft in the engine out practices.

I am hoping that as I build up my hours I will get a better feel for the machine and discover it's true best glide speed.

Yes Nicolas it's stability is very evident without the engine slipstream. Impressive.

I like the way you think...
and by time and experience you will feel that you and your gyro is one.

On the Bensen it is now a 52'' 4 blade Arplast.

I am sorry Nicolas not sure of the reduction ratio.

Hi Giorgos

For years the Bensen was the standard by which other clones of it's type were designed, Today I believe your machine should be the standard for machines of this style!!!!!!

Leigh, Sorry..... my fingers some times move with out a command from my brain

52" 4 bladed is ok..... i thought that maybe you were using 60" and i was going to suggest that 3 blades are better unless you you have a really high reduction ratio.

Arplast makes some nice props

Tony, Thank you for your nice words!!! I as well as Giorgos are very satisfied with the performance and stability of this gyro!!! I think is a nice gyro for everyone to build and fly.... from novice to expert.
