Default I found Ethanol-free fuel

A couple days ago one of the guys out at the airpark told me they found a gas station selling ethanol-free fuel. It's at a marina and the boat owners had requested it so the station obliged. Today I went there on my way to the airfield and purchased some. I then drained all the ethanol crap out of my gyro and replaced it with the ethanol-free fuel.

While I was draining the fuel from my gyro I had the bulb-primer off and for gee-whiz I decided to blow through it. To my surprise there was a lot of resistance. I could hear the check ball rattling around but there was definately a lot of resistance blowing through it. I think it's Ron Awad who tells everyone to remove those bulb primers because the check valve can malfunction. I did not put the bulb back on. Once I had the new fuel in my tank I pulled the starter cord 2 or 3 times with the ignition off and the pulse pump brought the fuel all the way up to the carbs. I then gave it a couple squirts from my plunger primer and it started right up. My advice to anyone out there using a bulb type primer is to remove it. You don't need it.

Default Ethanol Free Gas

Here in South Carolina-Found that Blue Sonoco Gas is free of Ethanol.

Also found that the Amoco Gas is also free of Ethanol.

Last year my Aeronca Pre War chief which has an STC for car gas had a stopped up primer<the O ring swelled up and blocked fuel.Would not push to prime. Ordered a Ethanol Checker from AirCraft Spruce and fuel had Ethanol
in it.

Also a friend here with an Ercoupe had a stopped up fuel line from the fuel
pump to the carb. He also has a STC to run car gas.

Beware-Don't know what it will do with the Rotax but i always make sure of
the fuel i add to my 582.

Just my two cents on ETHANOL Gas.

I guess there is a loud and clear warning here about Ethanol, and it doesn't sound good. Might take our bulb off but as suggested have it handy.

Anybody any idea what pressure the Mikuni develops and how far down the tanks can safely be?

Ours might be a bit on the low side. Depending on where our thrust line and CG turns out we might move them up a bit.

I have been getting ethanol free gas from a marina and the few cents a gallon more (about 40) is well worth it for the additional peace of mind.

Ron can you see any issues drawing from the two seperate fuel tanks at the same time?

Do I/should I interconnect them?

Thing is at the moment it is real easy to simply take one off and go 5 galls for tooling around the airfield, or, put them both on to go somewhere.

All of us here in Fl. got screwed by Charlie Crist signing the mandated ethanol blend fuels bill.
I guess he must have heard the outrage, for he provided for recreational ethanol free fuel in an ammendment to his original bill.
There are now about five stations in my area working under that provision.
No price increase, ethanol free.

why don't you have a bypass line with a shut-off valve around the ball pump?

The bulb primer is simply not needed. My lines had zero fuel in them after I drained my ehtanol fuel and refilled with fresh fuel. Slowly pulling the engine over 2 or 3 times let the pulse fuel pump get the fuel up to the carbs. A couple squirts of my plunger primer and it started right up. I wouldn't go to the extra trouble of plumbing in a bypass hose, etc. with the bulb primer. Just take it off.

Was advised today by the wight and measures inspector that Marathon brand fuels have been authorized to produce a non alcohol fuel for sale. It will be listed as recreational fuel.

There are guys at our local airport, 2R2, that say that the higher octane at CITGO stations does not have Ethanol. Only problem with that is the moral dilemma of supporting that magot, Hugo Chavez, in Venezuela. I continue to have decent performance with the Shell 93 octane.

you may have to support some magots but at least you will be safe flying. I feel I have supported a lot of magots and they are americans in high places
