Looking for the dimensions of the blade box for a set of 23' Dragon Wings to be mounted on a trailer. The weight of the box and wings as well if anyone had that.
Thanks. Last edited by Resasi; 04-14-2009 at 08:10 AM. |

The one I had made was long enough to leave the hub bar attached to one of the blades, which shortens the process of off and on. My box is 158 inches long 14"X14".
Here is a pic.

Joe,
Is that a complete rotor with covers on the blades on the ladder? Why not just put you rotor on the ladder so you dont have to take it half apart?

We used to do the same thing when trailering helicopters around, main blades always came off. The head didn't, but had to be restrained to keep from damaging it - same for the tail rotor, we usually left it on.

I do. But I discovered that method after having the box built.

Joe, a beautiful setup, thank you very much for those dimensions, and the idea of leaving one blade attached.
I may not be able to leave the hub bar on, as the gyro I am trying to get built will be just very slightly longer than the Hornet it self or around 12' long. Trying to keep this as compact and light as possible for shipping to Kenya Last edited by Resasi; 04-14-2009 at 10:57 AM. |

And Joe didn't pinch any pennies on that ladder either!
I have had that same ladder (little Giant) for 20 years, and still have not broken it.

Actually Joe is a wee bit on the cheap side. I saw the Gorilla brand go on sale for about a hundred bucks and that pushed me over the edge.

Speaking of Blade Boxes...I purchased my RAF 2000 about a month ago and have spent every waking hour I could doing maintenance and rebuilding the dash. One of my next projects may be building a better Blade box if I can get an thought or two.
When I picked up my gyro, the blade "box" is a rather large 17" PVC tube, cut lengthwise with hinges and snap locks installed. It is a nice setup, but monsterously heavy. the blades and hub bar are 97 pounds alone. Since I know they're not going on a diet anytime soon...that leaves the box. It's about 110 pounds by itself! (It's a rather stout PVC tube!). Anyone made anything a bit more managable without sacraficing security?

An easy fix.....ring up your local Robinson helicopter dealer and ask him if he has an old R22 blade box with supports,(foam cutouts) or ask him to hold on to the next one he gets. Add hinges and strengthening......$20 tops. My local dealer thanked me as i drove off!
