Default PPC Flights in Spokane

As I am currently a PPC flyer, figured I would share some spokane area pics from a ppcs point of view.

The red white and blue canopy is mine, on an airframes unlimited t-2. Just thought I would share a bit.

Tom I used to have a orginal Paraplane with the twin solo engines. Loved flying the chute! Just a bit too slow to really go places but still a nice relaxing way to fly.

Don’t even think about it Birdy.

The top speed of cows and powered parachutes is about the same.

We are slow as sin, my hawk wing averages 35mph. Flying PPCs is pretty easy, takeoff is the most difficult part and that is not bad at all. PPC flyers would likely say that gyro pilots are the brave ones. If I relied only on my flight experience with an old benson gyro in the 80s I would have to agree. Like gyros, PPCs have come a very long way in the last few years.

In rough wind and turbulence there is a slight rocking motion as you fly. If you fly one of these, it is only to enjoy flying because you will not get anywhere.

The good side of PPCs, you do it for the enjoyment of fliying and not much more. The down side is they are wind sensative on takeoff and landings and slow (also a good thing). There have been a few times where I have found my gps showing backwards flight. Thats why I am looking at gyros, the ppc is the most relaxing and simple flight you can imagine, but conditions have to be pretty good or you dont fly.

I have been looking at dominator and pitbull gyros.

How does it act when you turn downwind close to the ground........sorry, the devil made me say it.

Ken, we had a ppc pilot die from turning downwind close to the ground and getting into some power lines. His climb angle in relation to the ground was not what he expected; didn't clear the lines.

Mike, his distance over the ground to climb altitude wasn't what he expected. His rate of climb would be the same up or downwind. Downwind, one traverses more ground before reaching the desired altitude and thus the obstructions appear sooner than if upwind and being pushed back to a degree equal to the windspeed. Sorry he misjudged and he and his loved ones had to pay the price.
