Thumbs down Dang the bad luck! Engine out!

Things were going just fine until it got real quiet.
First thing I did was look back at the runway, and knew that I could not make it.
I did make it over the lake.
I set down in the field just off the end of the runway.

I had just taken off and flew a patten, did a runway flyby and was climbing out at about 700fpm and about 800 ft, it quit. The engine didn't slow down, loose power, it just stopped, like right now.
It fired back up on the ground, but it sure sounded like it seized up.

Had to get the golf cart and Mama gyro helped me tow it out to the road and up the driveway.
looks like the flying season is over for a little while.

Anyhow, I had plenty of altitude, airspeed, and I was over something I could land on.

Dang Scott. I'm sorry it happened but glad you got it down safely. I hope it turns out to be something not too expensive or time consuming to fix.

Keep us informed.

Bummer, Scott.

The two most unpopular gyro games seem to be:

1. "What's that noise?"

and;

2. "Where'd the noise go?"

I'm glad you won this round. Well done!

Scott,

Looks like all the stars aligned just before your engine quit: plenty of altitude, open territory ahead of you, sufficient airspeed, and a fully functioning brain which made the decision not to turn back.

Congrats on a successful true dead stick landing. Whatever is wrong with the engine will probably be cheaper than a rolled machine!

Keep us posted on the cause, please.

Glad to hear that it ended well. Your incident is a great example to us all of being prepared, and of practice paying off.

Bummer. Glad the landing went well. Now comes the tough part. Trying to decide which engine to put on it.
