Okay for the second time Ken R. has made a fuss over me posting pics I took from my Pacer in the General discussion area. He claims I am breaking the rules cause the General discussion area is for things related to Rotorcraft. I understand his opinion, but I see General discussion as just that for things in General meaning anything goes there unless it is truely off topic.
Placing my pics in the off topic area - reserved for jokes and whatnot - makes me feel like I am being brushed off since those pics were not taken from my gyro. But I have of course my own opinion on the subject. I feel like this forum is just what the tittle says, a meeting place for rotorheads. I AM a rotorhead!!! I own and fly a gyro. I prefer to fly my gyro over fixed wing - I do not go onto fixed wing forums.... I have made it to every gyro fly in in the southeast since I started flying gyros - I only make it to a few fixed wing fly ins a year..... I am a member of the PRA and am the Vice President of my local chapter - I am not a member of any fixed wing clubs or Orgs...... I have 6 or 7 T shirts in my dresser with gyro stuff on them, and I wear these shirts everywhere I go flying no matter what I am flying - And I have NO shirts with fixed wing stuff on them ........Anyway between the fly ins and the forums I feel like I have made alot of friends with people from all over the world. A lot of these people visit and post on this forum. I feel like sharing some of the things I enjoy in my life with my friends. Even though it isn't gyro related. So I guess I want feedback from you guys, especially Todd Powell, friend of mine and Owner of this site. Do you all want me to post in a different area of the forum than where the rest of the flying pics are going? Would you all prefer me to not post any of the fixed wing stuff at all?

We can learn A LOT from the fixed-wing folks. Even if we do not allow them to post here, it will still be very good to have links to their forums.
After all: they also use similar engines as we do, use aluminum, wheels, brakes, and may have very valuable ideas. Jim |

Ron, while I find pictures interesting and entertaining for the most part, there are also times that I don't have time to deal with them and they just get in the way. I'm not talking about attachments needed to help explain technical details or pictures of on going/completed projects, those have value other than entertainment.
If 'Pictures' had their own forum then it would be obvious what a person was going to find posted there. I guess I would prefer that Todd create a 'Picture' forum for threads that are specifically for flying and non-gyro pictures. Having said that, I recognize there are other topics that get posted in 'General Discussion' that people could say deserve a separate forum also. But unless a topic is one that generates a lot of threads then it seems a waste to do so. Flying pictures, however, seem to be posted more and more frequently by more and more people so maybe it is time for a separate forum.

I'm confused. I read where Ken asked Ron nicely to put off topic items in the off topic part of the forum. Is there something here that I am missing? I am not understanding why that would be be a challange. I don't understand the reason for the angry words. From the posts I don't read where Ken is against fixed wing anything. I know that Ken is involved in the promotion of all kinds of aviation and is active in his EAA chapter which is predominatly fixed wing. I would be gratefull for help in understanding why there needs to be winners and losers in this interaction. Thank You, Vance

Hi Vance, How was the trip back from OshKosh to California? Hope it went OK.
I enjoyed meeting and talking with you at the PRA convention awards banquet.

I agree that a picture thread would be nice, especially for those with dial up connections.
As far as flying pictures from a fixed wing, If you don't show a strut or the panel, I can't tell whether they were taken from a gyro, heli or fixed wing. They are just aerial pictures and I like to look at them Alan |

Are some of our coleagues going coockoo?
If the thread says FLEW YESTERDAY HERE ARE THE PICS than you should go in there to see pics, comments not necessary, but available! If those pics are taken from abord any aircraft, they belong in that member's thread! I do not see discussion going on the pictures's threads, so nobody is loosing anything, it is just a bonus of this forum, you can go back in there when you have time and enjoy or hate those pics . . . Am I right or loosing something here? Heron |

Vance, being asked to post in the off topic area is to me, a nice way of saying take your pics and shove them up your butt. That is the way I see it. It is like Ken is asking me to place my pics in what he considers the junkmail of the forum, the off topic area.
For the most part, everyone else taking pics while flying - taken from their gyros or airplanes or out on vacation renting helicopter rides etc... - have been putting their pics in the General topics area. So this is where I have been putting mine and except for Ken, no one else has seemed to mind. Vance there doesn't need to be angry words or a winner or loser in this. But this is not the first time Ken has jumped my butt for fixed wing pics. I asked him the last time to ignore my posts and yet he still reads them and what you read today is round two. Apparently Todd who owns this forum doesn't seem to mind where I post my pics as long as everyone gets along. He may add a new area just for flying pics, until then as long as I can remember, I will try to let Ken be the big winner and post my stuff in the junkmail - I mean the off topic area....

Thank you for the help Ron.
I went back to the first time and I wasn't able to read what you read. It may be because I know Ken a little better than I know you. I read it simply that it was not rotorcraft related and therefore belonged in "off topic". I have a hard time seeing any part of the forum as junk. I'm sorry your feelings were hurt and I understand lashing out when I feel attacked. I haven't ever received much benifit from lashing out. I certainly don't think any less of your pictures because they were taken from something other than a rotorcraft. I sometimes get a little sensitive when my EAA chapter diminishes autogyros and my interest in them. It is nice of you to give in. I am glad that Todd has solved the problem with the addition of flying photos. I am gratefull to understand this challange a little better. Thank you again for your help. Vance

I hate the way most EAA groups shut out gyroplanes too. But go to any fly in with a gyro - could be a cheap basic little gyro or a loaded Sparrowhawk - and you will steal the show.

I agree, Ron. I love it when people say stuff like: "I don't see how that thing flies", or better yet: "That thing flies better than anything here"
