Default guess who?

Hi everybody!

I'm not a gyroplane enthusiast You might be surprised at having a journalist at your forum, a Russian journalist. I'm a freelance writer for an insurance magazine here in Russia. Actually, writing articles on aviation insurance is my field and we thought of publishing the article about gyroplane insurance practices in United States. (A few months ago I wrote the article about LSAs) So now I’m busy collecting precious information on the topic. Instead of approaching American insurers I though it'd be more interesting to try to speak to people who are crazy about gyroplanes and who have real experience. Well, I ask you to share any information on gyroplane insurance such as practices, insurance rates, hull coverage, liability coverage, or you may happen to know any cases of payouts. Any curious or funny facts are welcomed. I'm sure Russian guys who love gyros and regular readers will want to learn what is going on in the sky of America!

Thanks in advance

Most Gyroplanes in the US have No Insurance. There currently is insurance available on a few of the more established models but no insurance is even available for the majority of Gyroplanes. There are some companies looking to change that and at least make liability insurance available for all Gyros, but we are still waiting to see that happen and hoping that it will be available at a rate that we feel we can afford to pay.

$3000+/yr for around $500,000 liability is more than I could justify. (Add me to the list of those who don't carry it.) When I could get it for $1200/yr for $1,000,000 liability, I carried it. My hangar rent is $105/month. Adding $250/month is unrealistic for my hobby. Adding hull insurance to that means I would have payed for my gyro again in about 5 years. I never carried hull.
