If your tractor had a HS and was CLT this wouldn't have happened!

Acme Tractor Company
Mishawaka, Indiana

Dear Mr. Irby:

Thank you for your letter of the 16th of this month. We are glad that you are generally satisfied with your Acme Mark IV tractor. We must take issue, however, with your assertion that our advertising and promotion materials for the Mark IV are "misleading."

While it is true that our advertising materials refer to the Mark IV as having, quote, "high-flotation tyres," that is well understood among reasonable farm-machinery consumers to be a reference to the tractor's ability to cross soft ground, and not a claim that the tractor is amphibious. Most reasonable consumers would conclude that it is not. As you have demonstrated.

You may wish to refer to Chapter 7 in your owner's manual, "Drying Out Your Tractor." If your owner's manual was damaged by immersion, a new copy can be obtained by sending your serial number and a check for $53.50 to Customer Service. Additional information may be available on the Acme website.

Should you continue to attempt to use the Mark IV as a water vehicle, I am constrained to point out to you that such use voids the limited warranty. Other vehicles may be more suited for your purposes. This does not constitute an official recommendation from Acme, Inc., but another of our customers, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, swears by the Volkswagen for this application.

Thank you for purchasing a fine Acme tractor, and please think of us next time you are in the market.

Regards,

Dewey Cheatham, Esq.
Vice President and General Counsel

Pretty cute responses, guys, especially yours, Kevin. Had I not been angled across the corner when I went in, it would have probably gone on down to the bottom, where it is 18 feet deep. Scott, it's in the pond because the brakes weren't as good as I thought they were. At least I got the yard mowed before I did something so stupid.
