The stairshop has been crankin and bankin trying to keep up. As soon as I get an empty stall....another stairway hops in the void and starts growing!
This was an extremely heavy one....it was a walkunder style...meaning the inside stringer had to support the immense weight of the iron railing...and the stairs itself. You would not believe the mansion this stairway went into. Anyway...here are some chronological shots of this stairway hatching out and set into place. Stan

True Art.
Thanks for posting! I liked it better before it was painted though.... .

Stan,
That's awesome work. Do you build the entire thing in your shop and then transport it in one piece to the installation site? That sounds like a real engineering feat! Cool stuff. Thanks for sharing. |

Excellent Stan. I am curious how many hours a project like this one would take you from start to finish.
Many thanks Arnie Madsen Bell 47 G2 |

Thanks for the compliments....
Scott: That stairway took 10 guys to haul it out of my shop and onto my trailer. Same number to screw it through the front door and set it in place. I work by myself in the shop for weeks...then grab a bunch of guys for 10 minutes to load it. The railing of course is put together onsite. Arnie: Each stairway has its own challenges and of course each takes whatever time is needed to build it. This one had to be freestanding and thats why the 3 inch thick by 18 inch wide stringers. Many laminates...each laminate has a scarf joint...and these scarf joints are staggered for maximum strength. This stairway took about 4 weeks in the shop...and about 4 days onsite. Stan
