How do you know that it is safe?
HTL,small low hor.stab. Don't look any better than a RAF to me.

IMHO the thrust to COM offset is far worse than a RAF.

Hi,
I have to agree with the comments above. This gyro is typical of European designs in a number of ways. First, it is immediately appealing, visually. The lines are graceful and elegant, and it looks like a Lamborghini with a rotor. It is sexy and sleek and has me wishing I had tons of cash.

But it is similar to other European gyros in other respects too. Almost without exception, European gyros also suffer from HTL. Were it not for physics, which irritatingly dictate that the thrust line HAS to be pretty close to the CG for a gyro to be safe, European gyros would be winners. This gyro's thrust line is so high, I have no idea how the pilot keeps it from bunting over immediately. And the H-stab is far too small.

I can appreciate the allure of HTL designs (they just LOOK better) but I don't see the attraction of undersized H-stabs. Why don't they just make them bigger? This wouldn't detrqact from the visual appeal any, and would significantly enhance the safety margin. Weird...

The truth of the matter is, it is a damned side easier to design an attractive looking gyro if you ignore physics than it is to do so with physics in mind. Try it yourself - try designing a pusher gyro with CLT that is sexy looking. Can't be done. You end up with a daddy-long-legs monster. The UFO is sexy, but it is hardly CLT, no matter what they claim. The flavour of the month (Xenon) might be CLT, but it is hardly pretty to look at, let's face it.

At the end of the day, we might drool over the European design flair, but will have to settle for less sexiness and more functionality until some design genius comes up with sexy CLT.

Duncan
PS This said, it is pretty easy to design an eye-catching TRACTOR design which is safe.

Isn't that the new prototype enclosed Magni?
I am told that it is as stable as the rest of the Magni fleet.

Brian, that already has been discussed at length here, and Greg Gremminger can explain otherwise.

Sorry Kai.

Just being sarcastic. I have a Magni. It seems their safety record counts for very little with many people.

Bud, I agree totaly, the Dominator IS the best looking gyro. Nothing wrong with those long legs, all the best models have them!

Not easy, but entirely possible.

Xenon not pretty? Hmmm... I am sure that pretty looks are exactly what drives people towards Xenon in the first place. This is the first time I've heard anyone criticize its aesthetics.

The new Sportcopter Super Sports is another CLT machine with great looks.

Look at the redrive. It is flipped over. Drop keel. Engine is good. How can you look at it and say it looks HTL.
