Default Bush Sr. Jumps Tandem

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/06/13/bus...ute/index.html

Kinda cool. Sometimes I miss jumping, too expensive for what you get though.

Interesting that they were going to let him jump solo on the third jump.

I'll bet it was going to be a AFF training style jump.

Ahh, it did mention that.

I wonder if it was after taking AFF or if it was a AFF-style jump.

Sounds like he had fun and encouraged others too.

Birdy,

That is what I said for years and years until one night at a bar I got egged into jumping with two of my mates. After I sobered up they wouldn't let me out of the promace so I went and jumped tandem. I am really glad I did. I then went on to take AFF lessions and jumped static a few times.

I recommend trying it tandem at least once in your life.

The trouble is Tim,I'm scared of hights and would have me eyes shut anyway.I don't reckon a chute would work too good from 500'.[me eyes are shut and me nose starts to bleed above that.]

Yea, that would put a damper on the experience. I am afraid of hights too so you don't get off the hook so easy there but the nosebleed condition, you have me here.

Checkmate

Tim,
Just out of curiousity about your avatar showing the 'looking down' pic. What was your altitude at that point ? About 4000 - 5000ft ASL ??

Les.

Les,

Good question. I don't know what my altitude was ASL because I tend to fly with my altimeter set to AGL @ I69 ( clermount county airport ).

That shot is taken over the Ohio River near Moscow, Oh.

I was flying about 500-800 feet before I went into the Ohio River Valley which decends 1000-1100 feet to the river.

That picture was probably taken at around 1500-2000 ft AGL.

I LOVE flying over the Ohio River but in my little 447 it is a risk.

The Ohio side of the river has powerlines across the ridge of the valley. So if I desend into the river valley to poke around I have to spend time and gas to get back out. It is a 20 min trip (ave) to the river and my total flying time on the 447 with 5 gallons of gas is 55min with a 1 gal resurve.

That leaves me 15min of 'play' time but climbing out of the valley will eat up alot of that. To make matters worse air spills into the valley over the ridges so leaving is always nosewind-down draft.

I am looking forword to the day I can take my 2-place on a tour of the river and not be so concerned about climbing out of the valley and rushing right back home again to refuel.

Some developer nut is putting in a bunch of suburbs right in my path that I have to avoid to!

Here is a picture taken the same day. This is the Kentucky side of the valley.
You can see spots of snow on the ground. My 447 likes it cold that gives here extra performance and I can pretend I have more than 38 horsepower!
