Morning,

I believe that is a test flight of the navalized MI-8. I not sure but I think it's called a MI-14. It is a good example of what torque does to the tail boom when the main rotor stop suddenly! The MI-8 is a very versitile helio and has been in service for around 20 years and if the naval version performs as well it's going to be a good aircraft.

MI-14 is long time around and performing perfectly.

It was no test flight, obviously some power problem
and obvious pilot error by attempted take off.

My friend is chief engineer by Polish Navy SAR station,
works with them since years, they never failed.

Paul,

I saw the video of that accident a few weeks ago. The whole video is about 10 minutes in length and the pilot was doing the same maneover but sideways before this happened. He made a normal landing and was moving around to recover a man in a raft. This u-tube clip is from a TV show called WINGS the episode called RUSSIAN HELICOPTERS. There's a good description of the Kamov helicopters in it as well!
