Thanks |

"some sort" of license IS required to legally fly ANY gyro that does not meet "Ultralight" requirements in the United States.

Alright, thanks.
Are there two place gyros that qualify as ultralights then? Thanks again. (sorry for how my previous post was worded. I didnt know how to properly ask the question. I'm still learning a lot about gyrocopters and their construction.) Last edited by Smallredbox; 12-24-2006 at 07:19 PM. |

This link may answer your questions as to license. You do not need a license if the aircraft is less than 254 lbs. It is extremely hard to keep a single place gyro under 254 lbs. however there has been little if any enforcement of this requirement. There are no 2 place gyros to my knowledge that could come close to ultralight weight requirements. http://www.eaa.org/ultralights/far_part103.html Last edited by Mac; 12-24-2006 at 07:48 PM. |

I believe a 2-seater could only be used for training anyway.

unfortunally yes you need sports pilot certificate
due to the weight of the aircraft wich exceeds the limits 254 pounds for an ultralight under 103 part and a 2 persons will be arround 300+s |

Ultra lights may only have one seat. The two place trainers are operated under usually the ASC waiver. Requires that you be an ASC Basis Flight Instructor however, then they may only be used to give flight instruction.
All of this comes to an end 31 January 2008. Then, you will have to have at least a Sport Pilot license and have the gyro N numbered for anything over the 254 lb, single seat, ultralight.
