Default Engine Replacement

I try to get as much time on this project as I can right now.

I am replacing the Souza engine that had the compression problem with a bottom end assembled by RAM PERFORMANCE.

The new "bottom end" has the extra case pins, extra oiling, RAM's cam,& the forged pistons.

Everything else gets moved over to this new block....oil pump, water pump,RAM heads, intake & carb.

Break her in & try again !

A few snags....I have to tap the crank bolt holes to refit the redrive.

9mm x 1 to 3/8 x 24 .

Lots of other little details to do also like powder coating the oil pan and new bellhousing & all the other parts that had not yet been finished.

Looks like another busy winter ! Here are some pics...

1. engineless gyro
2. used engine
3. new block
4. parts

Chris: I am sure it will be as sweet running as the rest of the machine looks.

Keep the rebuild pics coming.

Nice clean shop you have there, Chris.

Is it brand new,or, don't you do your work in there?!

Just jealous.

Cheers

Default Progress Pics

Here are some pics.

1. the new powder coat shop

2. bellhousing being baked

3. sloppy shop

4. new engine with bellhousing on

The crank has been retapped to 3/8-24 and flywheel reinstalled.

The water pump & oil pump have been reinstalled.

Motor mount rails have been lightened up and polished.

The water return port on top of the block has been opened and tapped 1/8 inch pipe.

The oil pan has been powder coated and ready for reinstallation.

We will now reinstall the block to the gyro and then bolt up the heads and intake.

More pics to follow....

Thanks Thom !

We just got our N# cards & looks like we might get a visit from this country's best DAR in the near future !

We took our EAA data plates for engraving yesterday.

Now I need to get the repairman's certificate course done.

We hope to do that at Mentone, if they get one together.

These are the first pics that we downsized & posted. We did them with them with the free Picaso program......Thanks Udi !

Chris, the new engine looks great, nice work! Those pistons look like coffee cans - you should get some good power now. Let me know if you find out any more about the repairmans course. Mark

Thanks guys ! I will keep this thread going as we progress.

Screw, I can't wait to run her up again ! This weekend should prove to be very progressive, I hope !

Once the motor hits those mounts, things will move quickly. Basic reassembly.

Wish us luck!
